Hi,
I have a dilemma that i do not seem able to resolve, my GGF Archibald Blackwood married a Mary Hay Roberts on 27/1/1888 in Dunoon, Argyllshire, on the marriage certificate it states his parents are a Archibald Blackwood and a Mary McCallum (I think, it's a bit illegible) however I cannot find any record of a marriage between them anywhere. In the 1871 census there is an Archibald Blackwood as an apprentice blacksmith. My GGF was a Blacksmith, but in this census his parents are listed as David and Marion Blackwood. Her MS was Craig. Anyone got any ideas on what might be going on or where to go to find the answer.

Obviously he can't be 43 (older than his parents) but it be 4 or 3 making him c1867.

Are the marriage certs in Scotland diferent from England as usually the mother's christian name and maiden name only appears on the birth cert.

There is only one birth coming up on scotlandspeople for an Archibald b 1864-65 in West Kilbride and only two for the whole of Scotland

What exactly does it say for his parents on the M/C? What was his father's occupation and are his parents alive or deceased? Is there an address where Archibald is staying? All these little details might give us a lead.

Thanks for all the info as pointed out David Blackwoods wife her MS was in fact Cameron, I must be dyslexic in my typing. The Archibald Blackwood was born in West Kilbride but i still can't fathom out his parentage nothing anywhere has his parents as an Archibald Blackwood and a Mary McCallum apart from the registration of his marriage. I have downloaded the information from Scotlands People and his marriage certificate clearly states that these are his parents names. Any additional info would be great. Archibald was born in West Kilbride on 4/1/1864

Sorry Billy B, I am completely stumped as to why Archibald's parents have different names on the census. I see one of the witnesses to his marriage was James Blackwood which was possibly his brother, which matches the 1871 census and birth records.
