I am musing a little

I wonder how echeho was pronounced

If the ech was one gutteral sound would we end up which woul sound something like Hagar to an English ear.

Any German experts on here?

I have just had a though after googling and finding that in 1890 to 1911 liverpool went througha slums regeneration program. Massive amount of houses were build to house the familys in the slums.. I am thinking,, would a german family be given a house? if they were not from england? did they have to have a points system??

Maybe to get out of the slums they changed their name? though they would get more points? Thay said he was fram hanover.. haga??.. think i am clutching at straws with this one but it is killing me,, why change to haga and why? change... just writing out loud with this one :)))
back to google I go :)
thanks liz

Thanks ann,, you seem to have found them more than me!!! but its still weird why we cant find them in 1901?? Must be some secret :)

I have got some pictures today from my nan. I am still searching for both names. I would like to know why and when he came to britain. I have found haga in america and they say its of german line? but no real firm stuff about my line.

A bit frustrated!

My nan has also sent me some photos of her mother Evelyn robinette (edna) and her sister josophine. It sort of brings my tree to life :) How fantastic i started this when my grandparents are alive :)

right back to google.. why oh why cant we find them in 1901?? what was happening in 1901?? in liverpool??

Mary - "Normally the name on your birth certificate has to be the same on your marriage certificate".

This was actually never the case - what the name on your marriage cert HAS to be is your legal name. Normally, this is the name on your birth certificate, but if you've legally changed it, e.g., by starting to call yourself by another name without any fraudulent intention, then you should use your new legal name.

1911 census they were at 31,Boyd St,Everton liverpool.
John,mary e Ellen,hannah,William,Lydia and henry all there.
They certainly moved about on henry's war records mary Ellen widow at 5,Daniel Street.
Its annoying me that i can't find 1901 records for them.

Normally the name on your birth certificate has to be the same on your marriage certificate ie Johan Eckeho should be the correct spelling, but would have got written down in various other ways.

I did she some one in london from germany with the surname Hagar so maybe that name also was german.
Still can't find any of them in whatever name for 1901.

On Ancestry.co 1981 Mary ellen Ekho,John and Ada at 19,Vescox Street,Liverpool
1891 They are down as Eckhs but looking at the original it says Eckho
32,Benledi St,Liverpool.
No sign either in hagar name or other.

They probably hadn't changed their name before 1890 as henry was born 1898 under the name Eckho according to Ancestry.
