Two Hallett sisters emigrated to Australia from Dorset area in ca 1845-1850. One at least was called Margaret I believe and married a Mr Rendell in Australia. The other married a Mr Pedersen. This latter copuple had probably 4 sons, born in Sydney. One of whom, Conrad, was my grandfather. I would love to hear from anyone who has any further information about these two ladies or about the other sons of Pedersen-Hallett. Their families - ancestry, descendents etc. I accept that it is a long shot but I live in hope!

Michael - there is a record on NSW BMD's of Emma C F Hallett marrying Christian Pedersen in Sydney in 1869
Conrad C appears to be the only child of theirs registered in NSW - in 1870 also in Sydney - but other states could be a possibility
Can't find a death for Emma Pedersen but there are a couple of possibilities for Christian (and I stress possibilities as it is a reasonably common name and this is NSW only) - 1 in 1908 with parents Peter and Anna, and 1 in 1926 - parents Peter and Christina - (edit to add - CONSIDERING MY LATER POSTS THE 1908 ONE WOULD NOT BE HIM - THE 1926 ONE MAY BE - THERE IS A NEWSPAPER AD IN JANUARY 1927 REGARDING CLAIMS ON HIS ESTATE - THOUGH HE WAS RESIDENT IN VICTORIA )
(SECOND EDIT - NOT HIM IN NSW IN 1926 EITHER - SEE LATER POST CONFIRMING HIS DEATH IN VICTORIA - ALSO IN 1926 - AS PER THE 1927 AD REGARDING CLAIMS ON HIS ESTATE)
Good Luck

If you go to http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx, Christian Severen PEDERSEN's file is digitised and you can read it online. He was a farmer, aged almost 29 in 1914, 5' 11". His father Christian is shown as next of kin, living in Brighton Victoria. He was wounded in action in France in 1916, then killed in action there in 1917. Interesting reading. It includes a handwritten letter by his father advising his change of address.

Okay got it sorted, Grace Ann was not a daughter of Christian and Emma. She was the wife of Oscar, who remarried after his death to Wm GOLLER in 1926 (reg 4933). That is why she is listed as next of kin on her son's enlistment. There was a death notice in the Argus on 18th Feb (he died on Valentine's Day, how awful)
PEDERSEN -On the 14th February, at Geelong, Oscar George, beloved husband of Grace, loving son of Mr and Mrs Pedersen, "Shedbush," Darnum, aged 39 years.
Otto married in Sydney NSW to Adelia May LACEY in 1908 (reg 6764). They had a daughter in Richmond, Victoria in 1913 named Dulcie Charlotte Lacy PEDERSEN (reg 34663). No further trace of her. Adelia died in Melbourne in 1963 aged 81, daughter of George H LACEY & Amanda Elizabeth DUFF (reg 21540).
Oscar married Grace Ann EGAN in Victoria in 1904 (reg 1954). They had LOTS of children! As I mentioned, Grace remarried in 1926 after Oscar's untimely death. Their children:
Emmie [Emma] Bessie 1905 South Yarra, m. Cyril Lewis MURPHY 1925 Geo 1906 Brunswick, d. 1906 Brunswick Oscar Sydney 1908 Williamstown, m. Irene Liln KING 1932, d. 1932 Toorak aged 24 Eva Grace 1909 Yarra Junction, m. Lewis Geo Percival SANDS 1926, d. 1984 Monbulk aged 75 Edward Arthur 1911 Warragul, m. Joan Fran FRYER 1936, d. 1949 Pville aged 37 Robert Hallett 1913 Warragul, d. 1921 Geelong aged 8 Frank Kingdon/Kingdom 1915 Darnum, m. Sheila Susan JONES 1936, d. 1975 Heidelberg aged 60 Herbert Richard 1917 Birreguna, m. Veronica STEPHENSON 1939, d. 1972 Macl aged 54
There was an inquest into Oscar Sydney's death - he was struck by a rolling log :-( Note that Darnum is near Warragul; this matches Christian snr's death in Warragul nicely!
Herbert's enlistment also lists his mum as nok:
PEDERSEN HERBERT RICHARD : Service Number - V83749 : Date of birth - 10 Dec 1917 : Place of birth - BIRREGURRA VIC : Place of enlistment - SOUTH MELBOURNE VIC : Next of Kin - GOLLER GRACE
Walter married Annie CLOHESY in Victoria in 1913 (reg 7180). They had the following chn, but there may have been more after 1920:
Edward Joseph 1914 Richmond Sydney Walter 1919 Richmond, d. 1975 aged 55
Annie died in Prahran Victoria in 1951 aged 64 (reg 3859), daughter of Patrick CLOHESY and Margaret GRACE.
Where did Conrad and Pauline settle? I can't find them in Vic or NSW.

Lets hope Michael comes back soon to see all the stuff we've extracted for him - the Roll of Honour circular I linked to last night along with Christian's (jnr) WW1 service record will hopefully be of special interest as it was filled out in fathers own hand

Hi Guys,
I am overwhelmed! I have been unable to log in for some time and sudenly find that you have all been beavering away on my behalf. Very many thanks to you all. I will print off a copy of all of this and set myself the task of analysing everything before I make any certain responses.
My grandfather, Conrad Parleyman Pedersen, was himself born in Sydney ( 1901 census) and had four sons (three mentioned in the 1901 census, and the fourth, my father, was born in 1902)
My father was Walter Rendell Pedersen, and died as a result of war service in 1943. Between you you have found the right family - I will make a very carefull examination of all the rest.
I have a lot of work to do. Very many thanks to everyone who has contributed.
Mike .
