does anyone out there have any Avenell's in thier family tree. Looking for any family member related to William Avenell and Sarah Anne (Annie) Moore. William was born c 1852 Hascombe, Surrey, England and Annie was born c 1852 Dorset, England.

For some reason, the alternate surname White has been added to their records ... Ah, here we are. An Ancestry user has added:

Matilda is the first born child (1848). The wife of William was Harriet White born abt 1832 Thursley Surrey. Refer to previous census records for this family. The census taker has written in the wrong name and missed out daughter Matilda.

Annie's death in Victoria

Daughter Kate married Albert Edward LANGLEY in Hambledon Surrey/Sussex in 1910 (Mar qtr, 2a 276, as LANGLET). They were in Victoria by 1913, as they had a daughter born in Elsternwick named Kathleen Minnie (reg 30628). She married in 1939 to Albert Wm ROSCOE (reg 1398). He was born in 1910 in Oakleigh Vic to Alfred & Eva and died 13 Sep 2004 aged 94 in Knox Private Hospital. Kathleen Minnie (known as Kit) died only last year sadly, on 5 Jan 2008 aged 94 at Inverloch. (See www.ryersonindex.org for death notice lookups).

Albert died in Prahran Vic in 1943 aged 68 (born c1875, son of Geo LANGLEY and Avis HERIOT).

Possible arrival for Albert & Kate in Victoria in June 1913 aboard Otranto, with child aged 2.

Daughter Annie married Frederick SNOOKE also in Hambledon in Mar qtr 1911 (2a 239). Likely arrival in Victoria in Mar 1911 as Frederick & Annie SNOOK (aged 28 & 26 respectively) aboard Themistocles. Fredk died in Melbourne in 1962 aged 79, son of Geo & Susannah nee HACKETT.

Possible arrival for son William as Mr W AVENELL in Jan 1913 aged 27 aboard Westmeath (appears to be travelling alone). George AVENELL arrived aged 25 in Nov 1913 aboad Osterley, with mother Annie aged 50.

You may already know this but if you go to http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx and search you can find WWI enlistments for sons Wm & George.

Wm enlisted April 1915 aged 29, labourer, shown as born in Guildford, Surrey. His mother Annie of Balaclava, Vic is shown as next of kin; this is then crossed out and replaced with Mr F SNOOKE of GlenHuntly (his sister Annie's husband Frederick). He was discharged in Nov 1915 due to deafness.

George enlisted Feb 1916 aged 28, mechanic, shown as born in Surrey. Next of kin is mother Annie of 6 Prentice St, East St Kilda.

Both brothers had a tattoo on their right arm.
