It is the 1861 census I am desparetly seeking I know all about his life but the period 1851- 1861 as this was the period when he was learning the trade as a potter

The only Peter Gardiner born in Scotland coming up on Ancestry (England census) was born in 1806 and has a 22 year old daughter so he can't be yours.

trying to find Peter Gardiner on any U.K. 1861 census he was born in 1834 in Airth Stirlingshire and appears in local census for 1841 and 1851 for Dunmore Stirlingshire
then disappears from 1861 census his father dies in 1864 and he comes back to Dunmore to take over and run a very successful Pottery till his death in 1902
