By the way on page 6 of the Green thread you have given me the name of James David Budd's parents. Never had that info. Another piece of the jigsaw in place.

OK Relax, this one is an excellent confirmation.

Birth Registration 10th June 1857. Where born 3 Thomas Cottages, Limehouse Middlesex. Name Charlotte Rosetta. Name and surname of father, Charles Green. Name, surname and maiden surname of mother - Hannah Green, late Green, formerly Haggis. Occupation of father - Fireman in a Steam boat. Signature description and residence of informant - the mark of Hannah Green Mother 3 Thomas cottages Limehouse. When registered 14th July 1857.

Well looks like we have that lot sorted correctly.

Yes and you may ponder my amazement when I found all the different names together, before I knew they were related and the connection.
While this lot is starting to make sense I have another off shoot of the family which has turned up in Australia. I am waiting for certificates to confirms relationships, then the questions will start.

Thank god for extended families under one roof in the Census which confirms the Budd, Green, Carter, Basenger connections (upon connections).
Blood is thicker than water. - I suggest that would be a good name for a book in this instance!

Also you have Hannah Elizabeth Haggis, married Edward Green and then married Charles Green. Edwards's father's name was William and Charles father's name was Henry.

I have just ty ped that from memory and have no idea if it is correct. This is so muddling. Just looked and yes it is correct.

This is so hard to follow one small screen at a time. I might put it all back into Legacy and see what it prints out for me.

it is possible that she married 2 different bassengers although there were not many o them i told you before about miss Flack wo married her cousin mr Flack, when he died she married another cousin also called Flack. She must have liked the name.

All righ where are the areas of disbelief for which there is no proof and which do not make sense. I will ask for certificates for those bits. I know I have another certificate coming for this lot and I can't remember what it was I needed. Hang on will look at the email

Charles Green Bassenger. Died 1944 aged 77. Charles was the fourth child of Martha Amelia Green 1841 and Henry Frederick Bassenger 1836. He was born in 1867.

Why the Green in the name. Oh hang on. Weren't all Edward Green's children girls. Yes. Wonder if Martha and Henry decided to put the Green in Charles name to preserve the family name.

Oh I think you might just have found the key to the whole mystery. I have never ever looked at the 1911 census. Because I believed that Elizabeth must have died before 1909. Census clearly shows that Elizabeth Carter, nee Bassenger (well I am assuming the nee Bassenger) was alive after 1909.

1909 was the year Charles Edward Carter and Marianne Ivy Elizabeth Kimberley went to Australia. 1909 was the year, according to both their death certificates, that they married in London.

Now Australian BM entries for NSW say they never married in NSW. I have checked Queensland and there is little chance they married elsewhere.


We know they never married. And now have an obvious reason. Because as is shown on this census his first wife was still alive and living with her daughter and mother. Also Elizabeth's age on the 1911 census bring her date of birth to 1866 which is much closer to the truth.

Now another point which I thought was just a mistranscription but which I think I need to follow up. GRO Birth certificate for Elizabeth Ann Basinger born 24 Nov 1864. Name of father henry Basinger, name surame and maiden surname of mother

now is that an error or was Martha married twice to two different Bassingers. Occupation of father Smiths Assistant, informant was father H. Bassinger address 31 Flowers Terrace Limehouse. Date registered 15 Dec 1864.

I have just menioned the age of Elizabeth Bassenger. If she was born in 1864 as all the evidence says, she could not have been 24 when she married Charles Edward. More like 32.

Oh you are very good at this. Regarding Elizabeth Bassenger's child who is listed on the census as the child of Elizabeth's mother. I went and got the certificate. It reads 16 Jun 1883, Annie Henrietta, Girl. Name surname and maiden surname of mother, Elizabeth Ann Bassenger, a Domestic Servant. Nothing in name and surname of father, nothing in occupation of father. Informant is EA Bassenger mother, 155 Kings Cross Road Pancras.

The census entry drove me crazy because of the age of Martha Amelia Bassenger nee Green, who was Elizabeth's mother and Annie's grandmother. Elizabeth also appears to have underestimated her age on almost everything she did. I have the certificate for her marriage to Charles Edward.
