Hi all,

I have found that Martha Parkinson 1809-1888 and her 2 daughters Mary Jane Parkinson 1831-1904 and Lucy Beswick 1833-1890 were buried at Yorkshire W.R.

Is there any way I can find out if they are buried together?

Thanks, Joy

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Mar 2011 05:33

and I hadn't picked up that I had posted Sarah's death in 1840 ...... for some reason I was thinking she had died in 1842 and so would be on the census

but of course 1842 is when Abraham re-married

duh!

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Mar 2011 05:32

and I get fed-up of keeping looking back to make sure that I'm not duplicating!!

but in fact I think much of what I posted has come from a different source .... so is confirming what you posted.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 21 Mar 2011 04:48

Sylvia you are repeating things I posted and you know how I hate duplication. ;) -- the Abraham+Keturah marriage, the 1851 census ...

We're really looking for the first wife, Sarah Parkinson!

"so we don't have a man with one wife Sarah Keturah, but one man with 2 wives .......... one called Sarah and one called Keturah"

... as I think I established a good page back ... specifically:

#1 Sarah Parkinson
and
#2 Keturah Martin (I frankly don't think "Sarah" comes into her name, I think we have the usual case of idiots making family trees)

The 1824 marriage to Sarah Parkinson is the one that interests Mel (she had not specified a date when she first enquired so I had no way of knowing, and so I followed Keturah briefly at first).

Thanks Sylvia for your help, you wont find Sarah on the 1841 Census, she died in 1840!!

I wonder if this is Abraham in 1841 ....... living alone. Even though the age is very clearly 55 on the census image

The 3 girls are away at school, and I haven't found William

1841 Census

Abraham Holroyd 55 Waste Dealer

I cannot find Sarah or William in 1841 ..................... so 'tis a puzzle!

sylvia

SylviaInCanada

I will be off now, going for my normal Monday afternoon walk.

I note that a couple of Public Famiy Trees on ancestry say the following about Sarah Keturah Parkinson .................. which doesn't somehow make sense with what you say and what Janey and I have discovered

Sarah Keturah Parkinson

Birth Abt 1805 in Hellingly, Sussex County, England
Death 1879 in Knaresborough, Yorkshire County, England

NO parents given

They do however give the following parentage for Abraham, which explains where the Parkinson comes from in his name!

Joseph Holroyd
1759 – 1834

Birth 15 Feb 1759 in Leeds, Yorkshire, , England
Death 1834 in , , , England

Hannah Parkinson
1764 – 1845

Birth 29 Sep 1764 in Leeds, Yorkshire, , England
Death 1845 in , , , England

Hi Mel

it's just before 8 pm where I am, a couple of hours earlier than where Janey is.

There's the odd UK night owl around, but yes mainly the Canucks and the Aussies!

I cannot remember at the present time where the names came from, will have to look through my records.

My gggg grandfather was Abraham born 1807, he was a Wine Merchant when he first arrived in Australia, he was the only one that left England, probably the black sheep!!

I had been told that the family were well to do by a gg aunt

Thanks for the Census, I think that you have just given me Anne's marriage, found on IGI Wm Charles Copperthwaite m Ann Parkinson on the 1 Aug 1831, will check further but there is a possibility it is correct.

no names of fathers ..... which is not unusual at this period in the UK.

Mother's name would not show, unless she happened to be a witness.

Where do you have the names/birthdates of the daughters from?

It occurred to me, duh, that I should have searched the IGI for Sarah Parkinson daughter of Abraham *and Mary*, but now all I'm getting is error messages ...

You can also try searching it for birth/baptism, no name, father Abraham Parkinson, mother Mary, Yorkshire, 1805 +/- 10 yrs, say, if it ever decides to work.
