Just to add, the Albert I found is Albert Victor. He is on an Ancestry tree, and died 1972. |

Well, the Albert above might be yours so I'll leave him there! Looking at census image is place of employment is 'railway ---?' so not the Cumberland hotel- a shame as that would clinch it! |

No marriage given for that Albert who died in 1915 and as he died in 1915, he wouldn't be noted as deceased on a birth certificate issued in 1914. I would doubt that he is "your" Albert. |

Thanks Kath and brummijan. Was aware Mary Grant had private means. Strange re Albert as a hotel porter in 1911,as Louise Grant was listed as a hotel chambermaid, and I remember my mother telling me that Nan had worked in The Cumberland Hotel .On Mauds birth certificate, Oct 1914, parents were Louise Woodcraft[ formerly Grant] and Abert Woodcraft deceased, and I have found an Albert Woodcraft that was killed in 1915 in the war.I have always had a suspician that maybe Nan wasnt married at all. She died in 1947 in Hackney where she had lived with us for a while.Registered as Louise Celia Grant. |

I can't see a marriage. Have you found Albert 1911? Maybe he was already married? |

The occupation on the 1911 census for Mary Grant should read "Private Means". |

Louise Grant born aprox 1883/4; Ellen Grant born 1906 in Chelsea; Louise obviously not married as they were living with her mother , Mary Grant in 1911 census.
