Cherilyn
I have just sent an email to Qld about that death cert. Hopefully they will give me some info. It is a lot of money for a cert when you get the wrong person. I would be very happy to purchase it if it is him.
How should I go about tracing his Will. Money did come over but the person that told me this is no longer with us. I know the name of the person who recieved the money, so that is something! If he did not make a Will, then there is still information to be had as money came here. Belfast told me the information will be in Australia. This Alexander is proving difficult. I have not problems getting info on his 10 siblings, Thank goodness! When you are in the other side of the world, it is difficult to get the information and it is great to have people like Cherilyn.
Regards
Alison :-S

Cherilyn, thanks for looking. What I was told was, that they had a child before they married, then another 5 after.

Hellen died in England Aug/Sep 1975.

Thanks again

Hi Trudianne

Haha, funny I had thought of the Flintstones when I saw Wilma! :-)

No marriage in Vic (also checked NSW in case he went over the border!) - is it possible they never married?

Cherilyn Report 5 Nov 2012 04:14

Alison, pity about the NZ one...could be the Qld one but the only way to know for sure would be to fork out for the certificate. Unfortunately Qld certs are rather pricey.

Just found the index for the Marytn St Cemetery online. He is listed as Alexandra but shown as male, aged 57, buried 3 Dec 1920. So age not quite right.

(By the by my hubby's grt grandfather's headstone is actually inscribed Alexandra...and his wife Martha!)

I also saw the NSW one, but there is a matching birth of an Alexander R with those parents in NSW so I discounted it.

Going through everything I could and found this....NSW 1106/1927 Alexander R Spence with parents Alexander for father and Mary for mother, Ashford. The R is putting me off as he only had one name. I think if it said Mary Jane I would feel happier. I wonder if there is a way to check the cert before purchasing!

Hi Cherilyn,

Got some information, that a relative of my SIL told me, which I find quite interesting-James apparently married as a Reid/Read to a Hellen Eliza Watson in 1939. Could you please give me the details if you can find it.

Strangely, his 1st wife followed and hounded him after their divorce, so she couldn't find him he went by the name of Reid, but all his children were named Brownlee.

Btw they were known as 'Barney' & 'Wilma' after the flintstones!!

Cherilyn
I have gone through pages in Trove and found this......
The friends of Alexander Spence, late of Mount Mulligan are respectfully invited to attend his funeral which will leave The Cairns District hospital forenoon at 10.30 en route for Martyn Street cementery. This was 3rd. December 1920. Funeral directors were Smallwoods Bros of Sheridan Street.
As i did not see a invite for family to attend, I did think it could be my ancestor as he was not married. It did not give an age but he would have been 64 but probably thought he was 60 as he did not have his year of bitrh correct. :-)
Kind regards
Alison
PS
I now found this.....1920/C4318 Alexander Spence and parents were Robert Spence and Lizzie McAteer. Then found 1931/B13911 Alexander Spence and no parents name. I wonder how to get info on this one!

I sent for that cert to find it was not my Alexander Spence. That Alexander came from Falkirk Scotland. I was so disappointed!
Kind regards

Thanks Cherilyn,

SIL doesn't remember her, only that she died in the U.K. while on holiday. Apparently James was known as 'Barney' that's where he thinks Wilma came into it!!

Hi Alison

There is an Alexander SPENCE who died in NZ in 1927 aged 78??? BUt abt 10 years too early...

Can't see him in Vic wills index though it ends in 1925. Not having much luck sorry :( Australia is such a big place and a sheep station could be anywhere. All states and territories keep separate records...he may have even been in the Northern Territory.

Hi Trudianne

Welcome to the west! :-)

The only Vic marriage for Jas BROWNLEE is in 1936 to Marjorie Jean CARR (reg 10275). Seems unlikely Wilma was her nickname!

Hi Cherilyn,

Could you please have a look for a marriage of James Brownlee to a possible Wilma? in Victoria, in the mid to late 1930's.

Unfortunately, I have put all my discs. into storage while waiting to move into my new home. I have moved to W.A. (your state!!) for six months, so now have to rely on other people to help me.

I was trying to get it on my watched threads! I know Cherilyn is in Australia but the nudge was to try for my watched threads only! :-)

Alison has sent me a PM. Like me, she was trying to add the thread to her 'Watched' list for future reference. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have worked. :-(

Never mind - at least it is in our 'My Threads' list :-D

Why are you nudging this thread?

If it is for Cherilyn she may have gone to bed if she is in Australia
