Ooooh it's just like the English GRO delay with certs lol Seriously don't worry, these things happen. I'm still behind with everything when my computer finally called it a day and I had to get a new one. Just glad you are ok.

Take care xx

Hi everyone,

Apologises for the delay.

I'm currently typing this on my itouch as I've managed to damage (read broke) my laptop charger, and want to take a guess where all my notes are?

A new one is in the post, so I'll be posting as soon as it arrives.

Sorry for the hassle!

Hi Mhairi,

Just a correction to William Brown of Wemyss parents William Brown and Margaret Maclean. I had down 1879. Found these notes and that would make him born 1875.

Name BROWN, WILLIAM
Vessel IONIC: Departed:SOUTHAMPTON Arrived:LYTTELTON 20 May 1920
Notes Male. Age: 45. Occupation: MINER. Place of birth: SCOTCH.
Source Archives NZ reference: BBAO 5552/7a page: 537

William was an adventurer and a goldminer. He was not a well educated man but well-travelled and bemoaned the fact that he knew more than the geologists.

Sounds like the right person

Gael.

Robert was the only one not to be a miner or engine worker he joined the navy and moved to England the rest stayed in and around Lesmahagow. My husband visited uncles and aunts as a child but doesn't remember too much about them only one being a golfer. called Mac, and one with the nick name Cubbie working in a signal box. Thats all I have.

Hi Mhairi,
I wonder if I could ask you another favour please,
I have been trying to find a marriage or death for Mary Newall Stevenson, she was born 23 / 5/ 1897 in Blythswood district, Glasgow.
Her mother was Sarah Stevenson nee Newall, father Hugh Sharp.
I have found them on the 1901 census living in 6, East Campbell Street , Blackfriars district.
Sarah's surname on that census was Sharp although she never married Hugh Sharp , and Mary is under Mary N S Sharp.

Mary's mother Sarah died in 1917 at Weir Street, glasgow, her 2nd husband Ch.Mcdonald signed the cert. They married in 1905 in Kinning Park, Glasgow.
Any help on her would be great, thanks very much
jean

I think I have found Hugh Sharp's death in 1901 in the poorhouse, New Monkland district.

Hi Carole

Sorry to hear that the birth Foggy found wasnt a match. Always a good idea to give any information that you know, even if you think its trivial becuase the smallest clue can help, such as a birth month :) Helps to rule out/in possible matches.

Do you know if she died in Scotland? And when?

Found this likely looking one on SP and wondered what you think?

1947 WILSON MARY BELLA (other names > KEAN TAYLOR) F 60 ABERDEEN NORTHERN DISTRICT ABERDEEN CITY/ABERDEEN 168/01 1345

Without parents names, and no marriage found as yet, it could be a bit of a blind search for her. Hopefully though, the kids births will provide some clues.

Phew, this thread is getting long!
