Pretty hard, AuntyS, with Sydney's father being John, and no idea of when born or parents.

I don't see a marriage for them in NSW.

Given that their first child born in NSW was 1873, I wonder --

Marriages Sep 1871
DUNCAN Alice Poplar 1c 1243
Higgin Robert Poplar 1c 1243
? Horne John Poplar 1c 1243
? RYE Jessie Poplar 1c 1243

Aha! 1871 England:

Name: Jessie Rye
Age: 21
Estimated birth year: abt 1850
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: William R
Mother's Name: Sarah
Where born: Southice, Hampshire, England
Civil parish: Bethnal Green

death
5990/1934
HORNE JESSIE
WILLIAM
SARAH
ROCKDALE

and for John, I'd guess, in 1871:

Name: John Horne
Age: 26
Estimated birth year: abt 1845
Relation: Cook
Where born: Middlesex, England
Civil parish: Bethnal Green
County/Island: London
Registration district: Bethnal Green
ED, institution, or vessel: Bethnal House Private Lunatic Asylum

And that's when I went to bed, having established that Janice and I were not likely Horne cousins. :(

When the Aussies wake up they can catch me up on where we're at.

Howdy, AuntyS.

death

The death certificate should list all of the deceased's children, and also have an informant's name that could be useful.

siblings:

19373/1873
HORNE CHRISTOPHER
JOHN
JESSIE
TENTERFIELD

6965/1887
HORNE FLORIA J

ST PETERS

In case you're interested in cousins, Janice?

I wonder whether Janice knows how to find replies ... and although this isn't actually the board for specific family history searches, not to post on others ...

Janice -- you have Sydney in your tree born 1898; do you have the wrong date, or do I have the wrong Sydney? A Sydney born 1898 would not likely have married in 1913. Are the other Sydneys in trees, born 1896-7, the same one?

Death of a child:

This one looks rather garbled; possibly another child's death?

marriages:

10527/1942
HORNE LESLIE BEDE

HORNE ERIC GEORGE
BEVERIDGE NANCY MAY
AUBURN

>> JaneyCanuck

btw -- I looked because ... if they turn out to be connected with Hornes of Canterbury, England, then we're cousins! ;)
[Janice's Horne seems to be from Middlesex, so no cousins for me]

Janey have you tried a trace back to UK. If Janice replies she may have that info.

And here's me late to the party again. I am having to reboot my computer because I have had so many windows and tabs open for so long that it is on work to rule, and when I do that I will lose the copy of the rpevious thread that I still have open now (since it has been deleted). So I am just going to copy it here -- sorry to have been so long replying to your suggestion that I send it to you, AuntyS, my mum was visiting and I haven't been over to the computer. Most if not all of it is probably already here now, but just in case, I'll add it -- and if there is anything that should not be included here, I'll delete it.

Here is Sydney's birth in NSW in 1890.

Registration Number Last Name Given Name(s) Father's Given Name(s) Mother's Given Name(s) District

If Evelyn was 67 when she died in 1960 her date of birth would have been approximately 1893. That is searchable in NSW BDM. I can not find her birth in those records. She was either born in another Australian state or immigrated from UK.

Hi Cynthia, Thanks for your interest and good wishes.

I have asked Janice to go through the information and match it to what she knows, then if she wishes to source transcripts of the certificates which will fill in more of the gaps.

I'm also hoping JaneyC still has the info prior to the marriage of Sydney and Evelyn. The bdm and census from UK and anything about the great grandparents. I did not keep any of that.

Just found one thing we need to check. Dora May Davidson married Leslie Horne.

Her nee name on burial was Dora May Horne nee Wilmott. There is also a mention of a person called Archie.

I have edited the information above do not think this Dora is Leslie's Dora.

OOooops sorry. Yes of course. You don't need to be here every minute. Go to bed. Just check in again sometime tomorrow or the next day. Whatever I find won't go away so just take your time to go through it. And yes I find printing it off helps.

By the way you can have fun with this as well. Just google the NSW birth, deaths and marriage site. Find the search option and put in the details. You will soon get the hang of it and you can look at which certificates you wish to order OR PLEASE READ THIS. A far better option is to find the Joy Murrin transcription site and get copies of your certificates from them. It is much cheaper and they are really quick and accurate.

Worry not at this stage. It is not impossible that there was another Sydney George Horne in existence, so the one at Picton might be one of those horrible red herrings fate will throw in our path.

jan69 Report 5 Apr 2010 10:30

AuntySherlock ,you have stated that Sydney George Horne was in the Picton area in 1943 thats funny because i dont remember seeing him,and we were there nearly every day maybe he left her i think i was told he was at work.
