Frances
I haved PMd you the link
You have to register, then you can search free of charge, then pay in euros to view the actual image
I found another of the children there as well. I noticed that each of the children have 2 names, ie Robert Edward 1865 Co.Roscommon civil birth (by the way)
Leopold Samuel. That would mean that Ernestine would have had a 2nd name also. I have tracked Thomas to Portsea in 1857/8 would it be possible that Ernestine may have been baptised in that area before the mother went to Ireland?. I am now pretty sure that Ernestine was not her birth name, and the name used in the other registrations was Smyth without the E. You may well know all this already!! Thomas was moved from Woolwich in 1857 to Portsea, so perhaps the birth itself was registered there.
Found one girl registered Louisa Sarah Smyth JFM Portsea , so birth 1858/9. Speculation I know, and nothing like Ernestine, !!!!

I have now checked the Irish records, and managed to find Leopolds baptism
LEOPOLD SAMUEL 1859 CO.ROSCOMMON
Its a pay to view, and unfortunately i have run out of credit on this site.
I will send you the link if you like. Unfortunately still no sign of little Ernestine.

Anne thats fine thanks, such a mystery because all other children have births registered.

Seeing that article made me sure I would find her birth /baptism there. Thanks for your efforts.

This is just a wild thought, but could it be possible that she was born in Woolwich Canada?
Far fetched I agree, but on the 1881 census it just says Woolwich.....
MMM I have just found this
http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk/history/Sea_Soldiers.htm
So highly unlikely.
Firmly puts Thomas in Woolwich in 1857/8
This is a mystery, let me keep searching

Anne thanks for your efforts, Ernestines father was in the Royal Artillery Marines from what I can gather, he was bandmaster Thomas Henry Smyth/e.

I have found quite alot of info about the band etc via google but not her birth cert. I much prefer if possible to verify with certs any info before putting it on my tree.

Thanks again

Frances
PS I think his wife may have gone back to Ireland between 1860 and my grt grandfather being born in Secombe Cheshire in 1873, because census show 4 children born Ireland.

Ernestyne is not registered with the Forces Births I have checked. I was trying to locate other family members on say teh 1861 census to get their movements, and to try and find what regiment he was in. Once I could find that out, it may be easier to trace where Ernestine was registered.

Thanks, Im new to this kind of forum, it was simply that I had some extra info, thought thta they might like it, went to add it and the message had gone and I couldnt remember which person had asked for it, it was that simple. Of course they can delete when they like, it is their perogative. It was because they where pleased that I searched another generation for them.

Hi Anne

Re Ernestine Smyth/e, yes she is on the 1881 census and 1891 census under her married name of Marsh at Manchester Lancs. I have her marriage cert. for 1877 but no where can I find her birth cert.
I wondered whether perhaps it was on military births/baptism seeing her father was Bandmaster in RA.

Ernestine Smyth/e her Aunt is on the 1871, 1881, 1891 census at Greenwich and she is buried with her husband James at Charlton Cemetary Greenwich.

Thanks your doing a marvellous service by the way, hope above helps.
