Yes David i ahve seen that, thats why i say the first bit of good evidence is the 1881 i have found.

I'm not trying to disprove you, i am trying to pick thru what we hae a see where you believe you may have gone wrong!

The only way we can do that is to start by dismissing almost everything except the certs and build from there....

? I knew my Grand Father as a child.
His birth marriage and death certificates were left to my Mother and on her passing came to me.

John Atkinson's employment? I can only state whats on the certificates.
I "suspect" he was a seamean, inshore, at the time sail was giving way to coal fired engines.

Thomas Atkinson, father John.

How does John Atkinson on the birth cert of Thomas go from being a Fireman to a Marine Engineer on his son marriage cert some 48 years later?

Sorry if i have loads of questions, but picking at the bones often gets you the answers.

Out of all the possible Thomas Atkinson birth what made you pick the one you did??

Hmmm, i think you might have gotten Ella's mothers name a little confused.

You stated she's Janet Alice Stewart nee Dodd,

She is actually Janet Alice Dodd, Widow nee Stewart !
