Hi Tracey

Thanks for the offer. Here is my White family - some of what I managed to save before I accidentally deleted the original White thread (with grateful thanks to my many GR helpers like Choccy). Because Sarah and Louisa are a little less easily tracked than the Isabella & Matilda who I did trace I had more or less given up on them. There were many deaths in Hungerford betwen 41 & 51 - they might have been amongst them OR they might have moved to London as Isabella and Matilda did - but how do you trace their marriages amongst so many Whites? Want to have a shot at it? If you find out anything else about Sylvanus Jnr and Alfred after they got to Australia that would be a real bonus. Is this enough to keep you from being bored?

1841 living at High Street, West Side, Berkshire:
WHITE Sylvanus 50 1791 Berkshire (shown as Tailor on Matilda's Marriage Certificate) (Died Hungerford Dec 1848)
WHITE Sylvanus 20 1821 born 17 Feb 1819 baptised 14 Mar 1819 Hungerford emigrated with wife Mary Ann (Steeden)
WHITE Sarah 20 1821 (bn 14/02/1821 x 11/03/1821)
WHITE Ewd 15 1826 (Lived Hampshire + family - no info wanted)
WHITE Isabella 13 1828 married William Braithwaite 1848 at St. Martin in the Fields - (died 1902 Croydon)
WHITE Willm 10 1831 (Llived Staffordshire + family - no info wanted).
WHITE Matilda 9 1832 married Alfred Briaris 1854 Hoxton (died 1909 Camberwell)
WHITE Louisa 7 1834 (Louisa Maria x 18/05/1834)
WHITE Alfred 5 1836 (emigrated to Australia in 1858 with wife Mary Ann (Chappell).

Edit:
2 things that might provide some clues. Although Matilda always showed birth place on census records as Hungerford, Berks she was for whatever reason x at St. Martin in the Fields, London. There may be a family connection in that area. Mother's name was Sarah Joyce - as the surname Joyce is not that common - it might throw up a lead.

Andrew,

I've spent a good hour looking... i can't see them, and it appears they are on numerous tree's on A*try and none of them have the family in 1861 either.... maybe they were missed off?

Hello Tracey,

I'm looking for the 1861 census for Henry William Mitchell born circa 1823 in Middlesex. A wife Elizabeth born circa 1821 and children, Richard Samuel born circa 1845 and William Arthur born circa 1859. In the 1851 census and 1871 they were in the St George Hanover Square, London Area. Any help greatly appreciated.

Gwyn in Kent Report 22 May 2010 18:26

Anything is possible....but I have never seen her other than as Hannah.
Mind you, I can't identify her before her marriage, so who knows?

A year or two ago I contacted someone doing a one name study for PARRY, but she had no knowledge of Edgar.
Interesting that in that area he wasn't declared as a miner or an ag lab, but had a definite trade.
As Hannah named a son Edgar, I wondered if she perhaps had a brother of that name, but had no luck on searching for her on that route......

Thanks for all your thoughts and help.

EDIT
Just seen your finding of Edgar... I'll take a quick look, but will have to leave to sort out family here
I'm really grateful for your many searches.

I have done a search on FMP, i prefer their search engine.

The search i did was on a Hannah P* 1867 +/- 4 years with an Edgar in the household. Only 8 came up, none of which are Parry.

Now is is possible she wasn't born Hannah? But maybe a Mary Ann or Ann Marie?

Witnesses to the 1886 marriage of Alfred DAVIES and Hannah PARRY were...
T.VERITY....and the mark of Catherine REES.

Now here you have to stretch the imagination a bit....
In 1881 there is this household and I wondered if T.VERITY could infact be J...(as in Jessie? )
I don't know if Hannah later joined the household as a servant ( she is a General servant at her marriage)

Hey Gwyn,

I shall look for Edgar now.... you think he was a figment of her imagination?

Who were the witness's on the marriage? Do they give any clues?

It's also possible i suppose she's move in with a family member when she took ill and her death could be registered there??, which i have to say is an impossible find!

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 22 May 2010 17:47

Springtime,

You will need to order the cert from the GRO. This will give you his place of birth along with the full date (assuming the informant knew it)

Without the cert you are not in full receipt of the facts!

There is a very good chance as i cannot find a marriage or birth that this person came from abroad and settled here.

Gwyn in Kent Report 22 May 2010 17:44

Thanks for that Tracey.
I agree that of those possible, Pontypridd is the most likely, the others being perhaps too near the coast.?
Another alternative would be if for some reason the death missed being recorded onto the GRO master list, but is recorded locally.
I think I might contact the Bridgend office before I take a plunge with the Pontpridd certificate.

Many thanks for your thoughts..... and if you should happen to spot Edgar the carpenter, I'd love to know please !

Keep resting that foot. I hope it's soon better.

Where was Linley from? Does it indicate on the death cert a place of birth?

WayneTracey Report 22 May 2010 17:24

OK, by my calculations she would have been between 38 and 42 when she had Albert.

Alfred is a Widower in 1911, the most Hannah could have been is 46 or so. (if she died immediately before the census)

I have done a search of all the Hannah Davies dying in Glamorganshire, based on this age & dates range (ie. 38 - 46 and 1906 to 1911)

No deaths for 1906
Deaths Sep 1907 - Davies Hannah 40 Llanelly 11a 502
Deaths Mar 1907 - DAVIES Hannah 44 Llanelly 11a 747
Deaths Dec 1907 - DAVIES Hannah 46 Pontardawe 11a 560
Deaths Dec 1908 - Davies Hannah Sophia 41 Swansea 11a 569
Deaths Sep 1908 - DAVIES Hannah 45 Llanelly 11a 579
No deaths for 1909
>>Deaths Sep 1910 - Davies Hannah 42 Pontypridd 11a 283
Deaths Dec 1911 - Davies Hannah 46 Llanelly 11a 1115

There is no indication Hannah had a middle name so the Hannah Sophia seems unlikely.

The one i like the most is the Pontypridd one. Could hannah have had something wrong which required a visit to a major hospital ? Or could her husband / relative have registered her death at an office covered by another district. Pontypridd not being a million miles away?

Let me know your thoughts
