My great grandfather, Joseph MAHER was born in Salford, Manchester in 1844. There is no trace of the family on the 1851 and 1861 census's. Joseph appears on the 1871 married to Maragret TYNAN.Where was the family in 1851 and 1861? I have no siblings for him.
I know his father's name was MICHAEL as that is on Joseph's wedding certificate in 1868 but Michael was deceased by then.

Any clues as to where they might have been or as to why I cannot find any family on two consecutive census returns?
MICHAEL MAHER, MARGARET MAHER and JOSEPH plus any possible siblings?
