Banns but no Marriage?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to trace the marriage of Jessie/Janet Robb and Alexander MacIntosh (both Scottish but living in London).

I found the following banns record which looks promising:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1623&iid=31280_198822-00217&fn=Jannett&ln=Robb&st=r&ssrc=pt_t1286806_p-273532061_kpidz0q3d-273532061z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgPLz0q3dpid&pid=7627283

However, there is no corresponding marriage record, and when I looked more closely, all of the other banns on the page have the marriage date written in the margin - except the one I want!

Why would there be banns but no marriage?

Perhaps the couple changed their minds - or the parents objected for some reason. Just because banns were read doesn't mean that the marriage actually took place.

Vera - thanks very much - I think that's them, as the children's names seem right.

It seems odd that they would have married (or attempted to marry) after having had children.

I can't access the Ancestry record for the banns - where and when were they called?

I see the Banns were called in Middlesex. Have you looked for a marriage in Scotland? If one of them was living in England but married in Scotland, the Banns would have to be called in both places.
