Rosina Northcott was born in Newton Abbot in 1892, to Annie and George Northcott.

She went on the have 2 children -

William Henry Vernon Northcott, Also known as and sometimes registered as William Ronald Northcott.
He was born 1914 in Newton Abbott,Devon, went on to marry Freda Salmon and Died 1987 in Great Yarmouth.

Rosina Northcott - thought to be older than brother William. he married Ron Phillips in Bristol 1943 and emigrated to Canada.

It is said by William that his mother had a very unhappy relationship with a man but whether this is the childrens father, I do not know.
William's father's name was not on his birth certificate so that is currently a blank. I don't know if his mother Rosina went on to marry him or claim child support. If that was the case. Where exactly would I start with Bastardy bonds?

I would also like to find William's sister Rosina who emigrated to Canda and possibly her children.
I havent got a worldwide subscription on Ancestry to I am limited to what I can search :-(

Hope someone can help :-)

Northcott William H V Northcott Newton A. 5b 206

How/when/where did he become William Ronald?

Erika Report 5 Aug 2010 09:53

Possibly :-) I guess that would probably make sense as she would have been pretty young to have Rosina if she was older`12 as she was only about 22 when she had William.........

This was mother Rosina in the 1911 census, which another kind member found for me yesterday.

I am reasearching for a friends father as there was so much confusion with his father William's different names and he would like to find out who his Wills father was.

My friends father only has one relative - his brother, I would like to find his Aunty Rosina (if poss) and living cousins in Rose was also illegitimate - she or her children may know who the father was.
I mean, they may not have even had the same father but It's a start at least. :-)

Erika Report 5 Aug 2010 09:57

Hi Minnie,

The first registration was his marriage to Freda Salmon in great yarmouth 1942.

It also looks like his death (GT YARM 87') was registered twice. For both names but both have the same details.
Why would this be? I have come across this before but never knew why this was.

Do u think Henry Vernon was the fathers name. Surely she had a choice to put the fathers name on the certificate didnt she or if the father didnt attend would it be left blank?

Gins Report 5 Aug 2010 09:59

Are you sure they went to Canada. There is a likely marriage for 1972

I'll PM you the details

Erika Report 5 Aug 2010 10:03

I have no idea about a middle name im affraid, don't know a lot about Rose Snr yet. The Censuses I have say she was born in Torquay.

Ginny - We're these children born in England or Canada?

Gins Report 5 Aug 2010 10:06

Both born in Bristol
