Not sure where to start looking from where I am up to........

I have pretty well got all the information about a very distant Grandfather: Robert Goodwin:
born:03/07/1797 St Giles Cripplegate.
died:01/09/1847at Mile End NT, Middx ,
married:18/11/1812 St Dunsten Stepney, Middx to Eleanor Cross.
And I have all their Children..

What I am trying to do is go back further on the Goodwin line..

There is a Father called Robert and a mother called Mary on my Robert's Christining (27/07/1797 at SAINT GILES CRIPPLEGATE BARBICAN INDEPENDENT) but nothing else.. and I have really no idea where to go from here.. or if it is even possible ?

Any help or suggestions would be deeply appricated..

Thanks Lindsey* ,

That matches perfectly with what I have and is where I got my current information to date and I am 99.9% sure that it is all correct.. but going back the next step to find out information on Robert (father) and Mary is the challenge.. I really dont know what I should do or where I should look next.. I have been chcking random Goodwins in the 1750-70's and trying to work forward to a match.. and just managing to confuse myself .. lol

Amazing.. thank you so much .. is there somewhere that I should be looking at.. to get the 1700's records.. ? next step will be going back even further.. although it has been suggested to me that if familys were not from money or just "average" working class people .. then.. quite often no records were kept ?

probably there are spelling changes before that , godwyn, gooden,etc. and that's where it can all go horribly wrong chasing up the wrong tree.
