Just to agree with mgnv on the destination part -- it's pretty unlikely that an English-speaking agricultural tractor driver was really destined for Montreal. He likely just put down the city where he would be arriving. Leaving you with no idea where he really went.

Other than the Drouin collection for Quebec, there are pretty much no vital records (BMDs) accessible in Canadian provinces for the second half of the 20th century. (Generally, births are closed for 100 years, marriages and deaths for shorter periods, but still too early for your search.)

One resource for deaths of people who were in the military is the Legion's "Last Post" online. This one is so close (dob c1926), but I think it's unlikely your uncle managed to be in WW2 and the Korean War before coming to Canada and then in the regular force in Canada.

Sergeant James D. LAMONT
Date Deceased: July 11, 1994
Age: 68
Service Information
Service Number: D147464
Units: Royal 22nd Regiment
Period of Service: WW 2, Korean War, Regular Force
Legion Branch Information
Member Title:
Legion Branch: Centreville Branch
Location: Centreville, New Brunswick

Google is about the only resource in this situation -- use google.ca and try variations of his name, like "James D Lamont", "Lamont James Dawson", etc., and once you have results click "Pages from Canada" on the left.

Here is a James D Lamont in Renfrew County, Ontario (the Ottawa River valley, west of Ottawa, rural/small towns). His wife's parents were born in 1885 and 1890, so that's the right kind of age range.

Dear All,

really appreciate the help, I have Rachel Dawson as born around 1831. Also I don't have a Donald Lamont on my tree, but doesn't mean that he shouldn't be there. Did he come from Braemar Scotland or Forfar as it seems my family were in Braemar in the early part of the 19th Century moving to Fofar in the middle to late part of the century.

Again thanks for all your help

To all that have helped me I would like to say a huge thank you, I have recently made contact with my dad's brother's family and some other relations who I didn't know I had. Sadly my uncle passed away in 1999.

This would not have been possible without the help received from the people above who helped me. I will be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Fergus

Don't know why you'd dig up this old thread to add to, Colin.
