That isn't our Henry Smith anyway because Henry W H died in Gloucester C. , a long time after my father-in-law died and in a totally wrong place! Our Henry died in Exmouth in 1939.

The search continues?

Have looked, with no success. But I just wondered if there is one on ancestry.com like his marriage to Eva in 1901?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 2 Apr 2011 16:25

Gardener, have you looked for a marriage yourself?

Gardener47

Gardener47 Report 2 Apr 2011 16:23

Thanks, not any relevance, that I know of.

Is their a marriage for Henry James Smith or Henry Walter Herbert Smith to Eliza? This is to confirm the 1901 Census where he is living with Eliza and 2 children, I am debating this still.

Query from a new thread, which is relevant to this query:

"Please could someone look up 96 Shirland Road, Paddington on the 1891 Census? I was looking at a trancript that said that an ancestor of mine (Eva Ferris) was living next door to Thomas Smith but I don't know who lived with Thomas. I am hoping someone named Henry will be living with him but I am interested in any Smith's living with him."

Can someone please look up 96 Shirland Road, Paddington on the 1891 Census? I believe Henry could have been living their.

Gardener47 Report 31 Mar 2011 15:03

The Death for the one that could be ours is:

Henry W H Smith, 83, Gloucester C. (In Jan Quarter 1955)

This is not our Henry Smith

Gardener47 Report 30 Mar 2011 18:19

Hi I understand what your saying but I find it a bit hard to believe! Can Henry W H Smith be found on the 1911 census? If he can be found with the wife he supposedly has, Eliza and their kids, Emma and Henry, then he probably wouldn't have been bigamestly married to Eva Ferris.
Many Thanks

I've added to this thread and watched it develop, I really think that you have to consider that the 1901 census with Elizabeth and the 2 children maybe him.

Why would 1 person put down 2 names on their sons birth certificate...... because he used both names, why I can't answer....... but as a guess he was registered under 1 name and chose to use another. This very often means that he didn't want to be found because of something in his past!

Henry Walter Herbert Smith is a Silversmith in 1901. His baptism states his father was Walter as does the marriage certificate for Henry James Smith.

I think I would order another birth certificate for one of his children and see what that states.

Where is he then ? My husband birth certificate said Henry Walter Hebert o/w Henry James Smith.
So he could be using the surname Herbert ?

Thankyou
