Hi Wendy,

When you get chance could you please try and find the marriage of William Pashley and Ellen Gott which took place in Worksop district in Sept q 1853. I can't narrow down a parish for you as in 1851 as they were both living in Yorkshire.

It may not help you much with whereabouts they married but on the 1861 census, it states their first child was born at Worksop in 1855.

Thank you

Chris

Hi Wendy

You kindly looked up some burials for me , Atkinson family buried Nottingham Road, Basford
I have now found my gg grandfather Henry Atkinson b 1858 and died 1904 , Bobbersmill Road, Hyson Green. I wondered if you could find if he was buried in the same place
Were these unmarked graves ?? how would i find details my self ?

I have been to the Nottingham archives many times but not sure how to access records other than the Church records !! The Atkinsons don't seem to have had their children baptised and i couldn't find church records for burials .. not very good at this !!

I wondered if the electoral records were available for 43 Goldsmith Street, Nottingham. My gg grandmother [Hannah ] Maria Atkinson ran appartments there ! The family lived there from about 1916 onwards

Many Thanks for your help
Serena

Thanks very much Wendy. I agree, it does look positive.

Thanks also for possible siblings, I was aware of a brother named Richard as he is mentioned in John's will. I can now extend my research for William and try to find out who Mary Davison was.

Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Regards

John

Hi John,

I cannot find a christening for John Newcombe but I think its safe to say he was the son of John & Mary Newcombe.
Here's some possible siblings
Richard 1 Oct 1739 & William 27 Nov 1741at Blyth both sons of John of Barnby.

Here the marriage details:
Blyth 24 April 1735 John Newcomb & Mary Hawson both of Barnby Moor
Worksop 21 Oct 1765 John Newcomb of Barnby Moor in the parish of Blyth & Sarah Gill of Worksop by Licence witnesses John Gill & Mary Davison (looks like).

Some burials:
21 Oct 1769 Sarah wife of John Newcombe of Barnby Moor
21 Feb 1773 Mary wife of John Newcombe senior of Barnby
4 June 1773 John Newcombe senior of Barnby.

As he's down as senior means that he had a son John which is why I say its safe to say you are on the right track.

Wendy

John Report 19 Jul 2012 17:30

Hi Wendy,

I am trying to “prove” the parentage of John Newcomb(e) died 1808 at Barnby Moor. I have no idea of his birth year but my belief is that his parents were John and Mary Newcombe nee Hawson both of Barnby Moor married 1735.

John Newcombe married Sarah Gill at St Mary (Priory), Worksop on 21 Oct 1765. This John was my 3x great grandfather so I am anxious to ensure that I have the right parents. I have the records from the Notts FHS on CD but, for marriages, it has no additional information as you know. Also there is no baptism recorded by NFHS so I cannot narrow it down that way. I am hoping that the original parish details might have the answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

John Newcombe
