Hi Wendy,

That would be great, thank you for that :o)

Although with my luck she'll probably be in an un-marked mass paupers plot :o)

I'll hold off on the cert until I hear from you in case that one is a 5 year old or something daft - is that information (age) available at the archives or not - I've never been ?

Thank you x

Hi,

I can look for a burial for Martha at the archives if you like if she buried in a cemetery may find more family in same grave. It may not be much helpbut its a little I can offer.

I have no idea what-so-ever - hence my request for a time machine or ouiji board !!

I just don't know where to go now..... hopefully Alice's cert next week will yield a clue ??

Fingers crossed x

ARSTEE Report 6 May 2011 21:02

Oh thats ok then, don't mind losing a couple quid.

I'll go for that Martha Denton death then.
In for a penny in for a pound :o)

Deaths Jun 1859
BRIGGS Martha Nottingham 7b 148

Its the only one showing in Nottingham before 1915 apart from a 0 year old.

How about this..... James had died, done a bunk, gone to sea ....... Martha died in 1859 and Alice & George were at a neighbours / friends / workhouse for the 1861 census and were listed with the wrong names before Thomas was tracked down to look after them ???

Dea

Dea Report 6 May 2011 19:39

I think if you put both names on they will probably refund at least part of your money as they will not be able to supply the cert.

That is how it used to work anyway.

Dea x

P.S. - I am still looking!

ARSTEE Report 6 May 2011 19:34

Hi Dea - please please don't feel bad - it's me that said those two married in the 1st place - I should of checked it out more instead of just jumping on it because the names were all the same !! x

These b*****y Dentons will drive me to distraction !!

I wouldn't bother so much if it was another line but it's the direct line - my mum was one !!

Thank you Wendy that would be great :o)
I've just got a funny feeling that there is more to those 2 ??

Does anyone know if they'll just refund the marriage cert for James & Sarah as I put both names down on the request or will they just send either James's or Sarah's ?

As always - thank you all - your such stars :o)

Hi Arstee,

I'll check the marriage of Thomas Farmer and the the one for Mary Ann Keenton when I'm at the archives next week.

I have looked on my disc's for christenings of the Denton Children that you are looking for but the only one I could find was for a William Denton son of Henry and Elizabeth Denton on 7 June 1857 at Worksop, sorry not much help to you.

My offer of help is always open.

Janet Report 6 May 2011 14:54

Well I am sorry but I think I am going to throw a spanner in the works. Regarding the marriage of James Denton to Sarah Briggs. In the same quarter there is another Sarah by the name of Sarah Turner. Whilst looking through the 19c newspaper I came across the marriage of James Denton clothier to Sarah Turner on the 20th Sept 1851. Both of Bradley, which is the borderline between Nettleton Road Dalton- where James lived in 1851 (census) and Colnebridge which is known as Bradley.-jl

Edit- the only link between a Martha Briggs and a Sarah Turner is that I have found them both as servants in Mirfield (on the 1851 census), which is next door to Bradley

ARSTEE Report 5 May 2011 21:17

Hi all

Wow your all still busy - thank you all tons !!

Dea - 5 / 6 weeks ? I'd be going doolally :o)

Wendy - course I don't mind your input, i and I'm sure everyone else who has been looking at this welcomes it so thank you :o)
But, you've thrown another spanner in the works - who are they then ? Are they connected ? Could it be our Thomas in disguise or am I just being rediculous now :o) :o) ?????
Thank you so much for the offer of help but you may live to regret that :o)

Barbara - yes, those children still puzzle me also, the whole lot of them either just pop up or disappear at will - agh !!!

Thank you all and my little one is tucked up asleep now so I'm on their case again too.........

Hi
Wendy there are 2 children William Denton born c1856 and Thomas Denton born c1859 they appear on the 1871 census and it states they were born in Nottingham but try as I might I cannot find their births. It also states they are brother to George Denton and Alice who we know about

Hi Dea

Hi

Hope you dont mind but been looking at your thread and I see that you have

Marriages Jun 1851 (>99%)

Farmer Thomas Nottingham 15 933
Keeton Mary Ann Nottingham 15 933

Thinking that they married each other, I have the marriage CD for Nottingham and looked them up, sorry to tell you that according to my disc they did not marry each other
Thomas Farmer married Sarah Dakin, and Mary Ann Keeton married Samuel Gilbert both marriages took place on 7 April 1851 at St Paul's Church Nottingam.

I live in Nottingham so if there is anything you would like me to check for you please let me know.

11th of May is not too bad.

When I used to order certs a few years ago you had to wait 5 or 6 weeks for them to arrive!

It is much better nowadays!

ARSTEE Report 5 May 2011 14:39

True Dea, I hadn't thought of it like that.....

The moment they arrive I will post the details - if I can still type by then after chomping my fingernails in anticipation !!

Janet - who knows what she did ??
Thats another one on my list to investigate now - phew :S
