I have only just come back to GenesReunited, and found the posts for Adelaide Rebekah P, Parke 1876 - ???? I am researching my son's Godfather's tree, and Adelaide was his Maternal Grandfather's 1st wife. His Grandfather was Henry Reginald Stanley Van Ryck De Groot,, )sometimes used Stanley first), had at least 3 wives. If anyone can give me some clues to when Adalaide died and about anything to do with his other two wives, Ivy Celia Freeman, and Marion Vera Helen Bottrell nee Davis, I would love to hear from you. Many thanks, Chris

Adelaides parent's are William Parke and Rebecca Page

i am still searching but not finding much

Cant see a passage for her out to Africa, perhaps she died out there between 1894 and 1902 and then he hooked up with the colourful Ivy after

Typical isn't it that Adelaide is the one I am most interested in of the 3 and the only one I can't find

Any chance this could be Adelaide's death in NSW?

556/1937
PORTER ADELAIDE REBECCA
father ROBERT WILLIAM
mother REBECCA
REDFERN

Our Adelaide shows with parents William and Rebecca in the 1891 census.

No, ruled her out too; born Rolfe, 1871, in Redfern.

Just for the record, the correct spelling for Adelaide:

Births Dec 1876
Parke Adelaide Rebekah Hartismere 4a 590

Marriages Sep 1894
Parke Adelaide Rebekah Depwade 4b 451
De Groot Stanley Henry R V R Depwade 4b 451

Janet

Janet Report 20 May 2011 17:24

yes definitely the right pair

Maybe the obit is slightly incorrect in that they didnt marry in Aus (they just went there for a time after)

You may well be right with the Adelaide, however does that not open up a can of bigamy worms ? or perhaps he could afford a divorce !

Edit No no news of Adelaide

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 20 May 2011 17:21

1911

LIVICK ADELAIDE 1876 35 Norwich Norfolk
LIVICK EVELYN 1906 5

so maybe not. This is Evelyn:

Births Dec 1905
Livick Evelyn May Marylebone 1a 488

so that probably rules out that wild guess. ;) Yes, she's Adelaide R Levick, unmarried, in 1901.

So no news of Adelaide still.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 20 May 2011 17:14

The only death in England I can see as possible for Adelaide is

Name: Adelaide R Livick
Birth Date: abt 1877
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1963 -- i.e. not yet turned 87
Age at Death: 86
Registration district: Norwich
Registration County: Norfolk
Volume: 4b
Page: 952

It seems a perfect match for age and place.

There's no birth of an Adelaide Livick or marriage of an Adelaide to a Livick in England/Wales.

Surely the Marion marriage and death Flick found are the right ones?

You're welcome!

If you happen to want the SA records, you can search around at the archives site for contact information for the particular archive sites and enquire there how to obtain them. It can be a little complicated, I know from experience. ;)

I am here, one of my sons just landed a lift on me !!

his obit says he married the widow of a Dr Bottrell in Sydney in 1930 and she survives him (that'll be the c/o Australia bank then)

and he was born in november 1866 in Georgetown British Guyana

Sounds like he had an interesting life too

many thanks Janey and Flick

This is him travelling to SA, the only match I see for surname Groot (or ryck) 1890-1911

GROOT Van Rych De (dob)Unknown M 1901 Southampton South Africa Cape

After Green divorced her in 1931 she must have reverted to her first married name (it was she who divorced Van Ryck de Groot), since she died under that name in 1954-56.

Any thoughts, Janet?

oops, there you were!

Nothing in the SA database for

adelaide
ryck
groot

I wonder whether he resigned for reasons having to do with the divorce the same year.

Janet Report 20 May 2011 16:37

Good afternoon, need some help

Adelaide Parke married a Stanley Henry Reginald Van Ryck de Groot on 25/07/1894 in Pulham St Mary Norfolk.

Her husband was a doctor I can find all sorts of things about him on Ancestry from the medical journals and comings and goings on ships to Accra Ghana and South Africa

also found

2 more marriages

One in Natal in 1902 to Ivy Celia Freeman (transcripts on internet)

one in 1927 to in Cornwall to Marion Bottrell, he then changed his surname to Bottrell and have found a medical journal report that says he died 'at home' in 1956 aged 89

My questions are

1) Where was 'home' when he died ? the last address I can find on the medical journals is c/o National Bank of Australia London in 1955 which leads me to think Australia somewhere?

2) What happened to his wives particularly Adelaide ? Did they die in Africa ( I can see him coming in on a ship in 1902 with what must be his second wife)

thanks

jan
