..sorry to labour the point but in my post about Mary 'Masters' son Alfred William Masters my suggestion was that the Middle name may be Charles's Masters father's name. I didn't make any reference to it belonging to the Williams family next door-I appreciate that it won't help you find 'what ever happened to Mary?'''lol-jl

I have lost the plot too Prickles !!

I have been searching around for this one for hours but cannot sort it.

I presume you got the name of Saunders from a child's birth cert?

The one in 1871 as a boarder with Sarah 1833,are you sure it says married or unmarried??
If you compare others who aren't married in looks the same.

There is a Sarah Saunders with parents George 1801 and Amelia 1821 2nd wife I think in 1851 Census born same time and place and there is a Alfred born 1850 in the household.

Ohh, you might be on to something there.........

I can't find an appropiate death for Mary under the name Saunders OR Masters.......so could it be that she went to live with married sister Emma in 1881?

I am assuming you mean 1891..........just going to check it out!!

Thankyou Christina.............fingers crossed!!! ;-)

Edit: Oops no, i see you mean the 1871 census. I got over excited then for minute!!...........I don't even know if that is her family in 1871..........it was the best i could come up with!!

Very confused by the Mary Saunders on the 1871 census. She seems to appear again, visiting her sister Emma b.1849 who married John Daney.

There must be two Sarah Saunders b.1833 in Milford with daughters named Mary.

Gosh i will have to think about this one!

I was in contact with a a member regarding the Masters.........and as coincidence would have it, he discovered that his wife was related to the Williams family who are the on the 1881 census.

I think we managed to ascertain that their was no link between the two families but i will look again more closely.............Thankyou to everyone who has taken the time to look into my query.

Will get back to you on this one!! PH.

On the 1871 census where Mary is entered with the parish of Eling, this is the same place of birth Charles uses in 1891. Could this be the connection. Whilst Alfred is registered as Alfred William Masters, could William be the name of Charles's father and not the surname of the people next door -jle

My Great Grandmother Mary Saunders born (according to the 1881 census) 1859 Christchurch Hampshire England.

Not only does my Grt Grandfather state that he is single on the 1891 census and the fact that there is not a marriage entry........i can only assume that they didn't marry. (Which means i can't send for the marriage cert! Grrrr!)
