Hi there,

I am looking to find out what become of my relation Morgan Chapman.

He was baptised on 4th May 1765 in Loftus, North Yorkshire.

After this, I can see nothing. No sign of a marriage on family or a burial on the NBI.

Can anyone offer a solution as to what became of him?

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks Lynski,

You have now included EVERYTHING I know about Morgan Chapman and his father, my ancestor, Robert Chapman.

I descend through Bethalina, who was baptised in 1770.

Can anyone help me find out more about Morgan and Robert Chapman?

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks Ann for the extended information; possible update here.

I descided to look up the MI transcripts for Liverton, Loftus, Stokesley and Danby (Morgan and Bethalina Chapman were baptised in Loftus, Bethalina was married in Liverton, her husband was living in Stokesley at the marriage and another Bethalina Chapman married there in 1754; finally, Bethalina and her husband lived, raised their family and died in Danby, Yorkshire).

No obvious entries for 'CHAPMAN' appear in Liverton, Loftus or Stokesley BUT in Danby Churchyard there is this:

'In memory of Jane the wife of Robert CHAPMAN who died 31 Jan 1782 aged 43 years. Also of Robert CHAPMAN who died 4 Sep 1798 aged 66 years. Erected by their sons Norton CHAPMAN, master mariner and John CHAPMAN, carpenter of his Majesty's ship "Naiad". Sincere friends though dead could not be forgot.'

What do people think? A connection? Hmmmm

Nudge ... how I would go about looking for a will of Robert Chapman in 1798?

Thanks

nudge again for good luck. i would of thought such an unusal name as the two sons shown on the headstone would prove very easy to look out for.

thanks

Just thought I would push up in case of any new information on the internet.

Thanks and Merry Christmas,

A tree on Ancestry has parents Robert Chapman (1731-1798) and Jane Porrit (1738-1782) with children John, Norton, Morgan and Bethalina. The other Bethalina you mention (b. 1730) is the sister of Robert Chapman.
Their parents are Robert (1692-1754) and Elizabeth Moreton b. 1698.

Could be your tree of course, in which case, apologies!

Thank you Beverley - yes that is my tree. Thank you for trying though!
