I'll happily look up those records on ancestry, but you'll need to tell me what type of records they were, the full names and the ages.

MarieCeleste Report 13 Oct 2011 19:21

There are 2 Daniel McMahon burials in 1858, but unfortunately no family details:

Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Catholic Burials, 1813-1988

Name: Daniel McMahon
Burial Date: 7 Jul 1858
Parish: St Oswald
Age: 3
Address: 1 Crostow Street (looks like)

Name: Daniel McMahon
Burial Date: 25 Aug 1858
Parish: St Oswald
Age: Infant
Address: Clayton Street.

The latter of the two is a possibility.

(These records, and the earlier baptism are from Ancestry)

Dear Marie Celeste Thats fantastic thank you
where did you find the catholic baptisms for liverpool 1802-1906?
Are you able to find censuses for daniel later on ie 1861 or 1871 .I could only find one in 1881 but I relooked and it looks as if he was born inliverpool in 1862-3. There was a daniel mcmahon died liverpool 1858, i wonder if that is one you found the bapt record for, which would explain his absence in 1861 and 1871.Alternatively john might have been posted abroad. I found on IGI births to john mcmahon and mary ann in the 1860's but nothing definately links them to my john and mary ann- unless we find that the regiment was in india at that time
The witness anastasia looks promising. Will see what I can find about her
thanaks again

You could be onto something with a son called Daniel:

Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Catholic Baptisms, 1802-1906

Name: Daniel McMahon
Birth Date: 3 Feb 1858
Baptism Date: 14 Feb 1858
Parish: Holy Cross
Father's Name: Joannis Mcm (John McMahon)
Mother's Name: Maria Anna Smith (Mary Ann Smith)

Unfortunately, the Catholic baptisms don't give occupations or addresses.

The godparents were Anastasia McMahon and John Murnan (?)

think there was possibly a daniel. I found a daniel on the 1881 census as a young soldier in the salfords born liverpool and as johns father was a daniel I wondered if he could be a son of john and maryann
all mary ann's sibling had two names ie mary ann, stephen henry etc so it might also of happened in their kids if they had any

Sgt John mcmahon married maryann smith 11th april 1856 at liverpool. He was in the 83rd regiment and fathers name was daniel.spouses name mary ann smith daughter of james.
MaryAnn was the sister of my great grandmother.John was born about 1834 probably in Ireland. We now know the family emigrated to Australia arriving on the "lillies" from liverpool to melbourne in december 1861 see last post on page two for details.
