Second marriage?
How long have they been married (from 1911 information?)
Which is the first census that you can find them together on?
Thanks

Thats them, i have a birth cert of there youngest child Richard 1912 and it states her as the mother

patchem

patchem Report 15 Nov 2011 18:10

There is no obvious Gertrude Bartlett showing on the censuses from around Cheltenham, and no birth on free bmd.
There are only 2 or 3 marriages of Arthur Taylor to 'Gertrude', none in remotely a suitable area.

There seems to be a bride missing in the records:

Name Arthur Taylor
Year of Marriage 1892
Quarter of Marriage Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration District Stroud
Registration County Gloucestershire
Spouse's Surname Only available for records after 1912

Might be worth investigating!

Edit:
This one can be discounted.

??
Martha Margaret G Bartlett Jan 1869 Cheltenham 6a 434.

1881 down as Bertha M G parents Oliver and Betsy in
Cheltenham civil parish WEDNESFIELD birth place of Gladys 1895/6.

A few trees on Ancestry with Martha but no one has a marriage for her!!

On 1911 Gertrude and Arthur have 6 children all alive but only 5 with them, could there have been a child born before Gladys??

Maryb.

EDIT death Martha M G TAYLOR born @ 1869 died Wolverhampton O/N/D 1923
6b 639

Michele

Michele Report 15 Nov 2011 18:56

I hadn't noticed they had 6 children by 1911, i will follow up Martha and her family sounds like she could be the one as when she died she was a Taylor, just wondered this, my dad said his nan was known by the name Nancy and was shocked when i found out she was Gertrude, is it possible Martha or Margret are short names for (Nancy) ?

Mary

Mary Report 15 Nov 2011 19:23

I'am not sure but I think Nancy is for Ann.

I still can't find her in 1891 or her marriage, but with all those names to go at well its anybodys guess.

Do you have Arthur in 1891??

Maryb

Michele

Michele Report 15 Nov 2011 19:42

I dont have Arthur, he is my great grand father and i cannot find him any further back, i was hoping to find his marrige cert to find out his mum and dads name, such a common name, i know Arthur was b 1871 abt, and definatley died 1947, wednesfield, wolves

Penny

Penny Report 15 Nov 2011 19:49

How have you concluded that if she was known as Nancy, that her name was gertrude?

Of course its perfectly possible that her mother married and she assumed a step fathers name

Mary

Mary Report 15 Nov 2011 20:00

This is the only Artur i can find born Weston Staffs.

Arthur Taylor 1877 Weston, parents John taylor 1832 Stowe Eliza 1840 Warwickshire.

This Arthur is with parents 1881/91 not 1901

He had siblings
Annie Richard
William
Albert
Edith.

Maryb.

Could it be that Arthur was too young to marry and therefore never bothered!!

I can't find the relevant death,do you have the number?

Michele

Michele Report 15 Nov 2011 20:02

I was looking for Arthur and found him married to Gertrude because i had a list of their children, it took me a while as i was told by my dad her name was Nancy

Mary

Mary Report 15 Nov 2011 20:14

Looking at the Arthur above born 1877 he had 4 siblings with the same names as his children.
IE
Edith
John
Richard
Annie.

Not conclusive evidence, but a bit strange!!

Maryb.

Michele

Michele Report 15 Nov 2011 20:41

Oh that is strange, Arthurs death 9b 764 wolverhampton 1947

patchem

patchem Report 15 Nov 2011 21:05

This looks like Godfrey:
Births Sep 1899
Taylor Godfrey Levi G Wolverhampton 6b 662
and this Gladys:
Births Sep 1895
Taylor Gladys Christobel L Wolverhampton 6b 676
so they go in for quite complicated names.
Is it worth getting another birth certificate?
The children are aged 15,14,11,4,3, in 1911, so if there is a missing child (and it was originally recorded as 5) then a more likely 'gap' between ages 11 and 4?

Michele

Michele Report 15 Nov 2011 21:10

Yes i noticed that age gap, really elaborate names, so annoying as certs cost so much and it could be a wrong family

Mary

Mary Report 16 Nov 2011 09:56

Well again the fact that some of the children had 2 second names connects to Martha Margaret G Bartlett as all she siblings had 2.

IE
Frances A L Bartlett 1871
Ethel M B 1875
Gilbert Lionel E 1877
Archibald Harry B 1879
Mabel Elodie A Bartlett 1880.
