I have found a Mrs Ritchie at 2 Manor Drive in the 1918 Belfast Street Directory, presumably his mother. The 1948 Directory doesn't seem to be working or has not been completed. This is through www.lennonwylie.co.uk. I'll try again and see if anything else turns up.

The 1910 Directory says Robert Ritchie was a Customs Official. I presume he died between 1910 and 1918.

I have this from the 1911 census

Residents of a house 20 in Albert Street (Falls (Belfast), Antrim)
Show all information
Surname Forename Age Sex Relation to head Religion
Ritchie William 54 Male Head of Family Presbyterian
Ritchie Ann Jane 54 Female Wife Presbyterian
Ritchie William 27 Male Son Presbyterian
Ritchie James 25 Male Son Presbyterian
Ritchie Matilda W 22 Female Daughter Presbyterian

The lady who lived in Manor Drive was 72. The William 54 could be her son and the younger William her grandson. The William you are looking for would have to be in the 65 age range. Hope this starts the ball rolling.

Off the top of my head, can I suggest you contact the Presbyterian Church on the Ormeau Road and see if they were a member of their congregation. It is Cooke Centenary Presbyterian Church - [email protected]. It's a long shot but they might have been regular church attenders.

Do you know the relationship of Elizabeth Jane McCrea to William? Would McCrea just have been his wife's maiden name.

Sorry my maths was wrong. Hope it didn't send you off on the wrong trail. William Jnr lived to a ripe old age.

Hi. Aforesaid is a legal term (don't know whether it's still used or not) but it usually meant that they had mentioned Elizabeth's name and the fact that she was a widow earlier in the letter or document. It just saves them repeating the information.

The only way I can think of finding if William had any children is to visit BMD in Belfast. Enter the surname only and put his full name in the 'father' section. You'd have to work out the likely years and sift through them one at a time. Very time consuming. I don't think the most recent records are online.

For the list of Accountants, try your local Library to see if there is such a think as a list of accountants. Again, it's a very long shot and very time consuming.

How does this scenario fit in with what you have found out: The husband of Elizabeth McCrea (nee Connell) dies and leaves her a fairly wealthy woman. 336 Ormeau Road would have been in a highly desirable area as well as owning other property. Sometime later she meets William and he moves in with her. On his death certificate you say she is mentioned as 'widow' but does it say she is the' widow of William' or just 'a widow'. This could indicate that they never married. If they were an older couple they may not have had children, If she was approaching 40 when they moved in together it is less likely.

Hope some of this helps.

it seems that on the eletrol rolls, the sons william, john and robert who live at manor drive dont have any issues. Im looking for any men that would be in house during 1949/1953

Would you know if any of the members of the ritchie sons who lived at 2 manor drive belfast had a son called william born around the 1920s, all I can see is them in the directories but no children with any of them. It would be great if someone can tell me what else I am able to check

If you found a record of their deaths you could order one and see who the informant is. It's usually a member of the family if there are any or if it was a neighbour or a hospital then you could assume there was no family.

Electoral Rolls ONLY include people eligible - and registered - to vote.

Presumably, you've been told that this man is related to you...................
