Find Ancestors

I can't find Thomas Bowkett and family in 1851. I've got them in 1861 - John Bowkett 39, shoemaker, wife Ann 38, Thomas 13 and Mary Ann 4, all born Broadwas. But where are they in 1851? And why such a big age gap between Thomas and Mary Ann?

I've got Thomas in 1871 and 1881 with wife Susan (born Warwick c1848) and children, but not after that - I think they may have gone abroad, possibly South America. Can anyone confirm this please? Many thanks.

Can anyone tell me please if this family emigrated to South America? I can't find any of them in 1891 and the family believes they went to somewhere in S America, but no further info.

I found you. Just some thoughts Linda. I note that in 1881 Lily is living with an aunt and uncle in West Ham, Essex. Charles C Fulton and Ellen. The uncle is a telegraphist and in 1891 returns to his native Scotland.

As Thomas in 1881 was a rural letter collector may be he too went to Scotland although I can't find him in EDIT Renfrewshire or in Latin America.
So in other words I too can't find the family in 1891 :-| :

In 1881 they are also sharing the house with Ellen Fulton's parents, Pool F Davis and Ann Davis, and Lily's bother Ralph Bowkett 6. Makes one wonder why the children weren't with their parents. The Bowketts and their other 3 children were in Worcester in 1881.

Charles Fulton was a thoroughly bad lot, allegedly embezzled funds from the Anglo-American Telegraph Company, and fled to Canada, then abandoned wife and 2 daughters and headed west where he married Rhoda Ealey 18 months before his wife died! He had 2 more children, changed his name and took 10 years off his age!

So, where did they all go in 1891? Maybe just mistransribed under some obscure version of Bowkett!

That could be the right Lily - age is right. Hmm, I wonder!

This lot are all far too adventurous, turning up where least exected! :-S
