Thank You Catherine...
I had not considered the possibility that he may have enlisted pre 1911 Census..Glitter Baby (thank you) raised the question earlier...
He had an uncle and cousin who went out to Canada (Via NY) April 1907 and I considered he may have gone with them and returned at some stage however I cannot find evidence of him doing that either...he is rather an enigma as he left a small fortune when he died (Wallsend 1929)

DEARY Thomas of Columba House 26 Laburnum Avenue Wallsend Northumberland
died 22nd February 1929 Probate Newcastle upon Tyne 10 May to Ellen Gertrude

Effects £8228 15s 4d.

Equiv.in todays money of £365,497.00...

His brothers and sisters hadnt a penny to Bless themselves with...!!

Do you have the newspaper article from 1903 about Thomas being assaulted in his shop? If not, let me know and I'll forward it to you.

MarieCeleste...

No dont have anything re Thomas..there apparently was some Shenanigans went on within the family and the "Shop" was the cause of it all according to family history...The saga went on well into the 1970s...!!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Apr 2015 08:51

Wards 1915/1916 has the following entry:

129 Park Road, Wallsend - Deary, T. Newsagent

ADDED: So far, I can only find up to no 113 on the 1911 census summary books (although part of the street might have been enumerated separately)

I was looking for someone recently where I know 100% for sure that a family lived at the same address from the 1880s to the 1920s. They lived above a music shop in North Shields - there is no sign of that family on the 1911. Checking the summary books showed that the premises had been recorded as just a shop with no occupants so it looks as though due to human error the family weren't included in the census. How many more times has this happened and could Thomas Deary be one of them?

MarieCeleste Report 18 Apr 2015 09:10

Of course, the properties numbered higher than 113 Park Road may have been built after 1911 .....

Eringobragh1916 Report 18 Apr 2015 09:36

Morning MarieCeleste....How you doing ?

This fellow is driving me mad...!!

I am at a loss as to where to look next ...

Didn't know he'd lived on Park Rd.He'd obviously gone up in the world from living on Glovers Row and other than marrying "Nell" in Watford (1914) he doesn't appear to have strayed far from home..
The question remains where the devil was he in 1911...

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Apr 2015 13:28

Might be worth looking in the Electoral Rolls for the known addresses .....

If you're not in the area I'll look next time I'm in North Shields library, if I recall correctly there was one in 1910.
