In the right hand column of that record, headed "seas. of appt" (Season of Appointment at a guess) it says 1827.

Many thanks, not mine I'm afraid. will keep searching. Date of birth was good. There is a baptism in Butleigh, Somerset of Henry Wilcox b. 1830 where it states Father George Harding - Soldier. Mother Edith Willcox who never married. Think my George is Father. No sighting of George in U.K. Census at all.

Yes that's him.I have a copy of the actual baptism I am only surmising that my relative George is the one mentioned as Father as I cannot after many years searching find any info on him and Butleigh and Stawell where George baptised are very close. George would have been 26yrs old when child baptised and being a Soldier he was probably be in India. Have looked at some Army Records but early ones are rare. He perhaps died there as Mother Edith never married. Thanks all for replies. Always helpful even to eliminate.
