Good morning I am trying to find Annie Robrtson who married James Marling in 1884.My problem is I have their daughters birth cert(she was my Nan) but their names were changed to those above in (or at least on my Nan's birth cert) in 1949, Before that they were James Mardell and Annie Robinson, I have some other info. on this but it's complicated.

Sorry Henry but I am confused. A couple marrying in 1884 could not have been the parents of a child born in 1949. Have you got some dates wrong, skipped a generation, or am I misinterpreting your post?

"Hi it's not private it's just compilcated. The other information is that in 1949 they changed they names on my Nan's birth certificate. Annie Robertson on my Nan's birth cert was Annie Robinson and her dad James Marling was James Mardell, in 1949 Annie died and Nan's cert was changed the read "for Mardell read Marling" and for Robinson read Rebertson" . but I have proof that James was born a Marling, and to be honest I can't make head nor tail of it lol

Harry - who is the "they" that changed the details. Are you saying that the registration index was altered?

Harry, does it give no indication of who approved the alteration on the certificate?
There wouldn't be many people who would know that it had been entered incorrectly. Only the parents.
Do you know if your Nan travelled abroad in 1949? If so, she may have needed a copy of her birth certificate, and noticed that it was wrong.
It may just have been a genuine mistake, because the registrar's writing was so awful it had been copied down wrong.
Brother William is registered as Marlin.
