I did wonder if the birth wasn't registered. I've not long spoken to my brother and he had heard the story about someone wanting to adopt our dad as a baby and also about a baby girl who had died, but once again this is all he knows so maybe the birth happened before my grandparents got married? Maybe this is why they went to America for a fresh start after they did marry? As I said earlier it may be one of those little things that we'll never get to find out. Once again thanks to you all for trying to solve the puzzle, perhaps an answer will turn up out of the blue. I'll certainly continue to try to find out.

I wasnt being sarky Mike, I was being brief as the birth was later and the person could still be living - hence not posting the full details
Good grief!

Just thinking of other scenarios and probably mentioning the obvious
There is a Clara Baker born Nottingham 1919 mmn Baker and a Clara K Orme born Runcorn, Cheshire 1919 (but mmn Jones)
Born prematurely on board ship travelling to USA - the journey didn't take that long and surely she wouldn't have travelled very close to due date
Born after arrival in USA and so records not available?
if stillborn then not registered on bmd's?
mgnv's NY state census - from Ancestry. Frank and Vera at 113 Newfield Street, both described as Machinists, Working class and Aliens

Please don't argue folks, Vera is the mother b 1901 Betty Vera is her daughter born 1930
Yes that is my father on the Enlistment Records - He was in 101st Airborne
Its this baby that I was told about yesterday that was born before 1926 and was possibly named Clara or Clare and was either stillborn or died shortly after her birth that I'm trying to locate. I do appreciate your help everyone, its obviously one of those little family mysteries that pop up now and again!

Am I missing something ?
"when my grandparents lived in America and had not long had my father someone had approached nan about adopting her son! My nan said no because apparently she had "already lost one baby "
............so the baby was lost before Vera was born in 1930 in UK
No need for the sarky comment Gins.

Maybe the baby she lost wasn't the first - as I read it, she'd lost one when she was asked.

Hi You've got the correct Frank L and Vera Orme, their son Frank W (my dad) was born in Buffalo USA, October 1926 and the family came back to UK when he was a baby, Betty wqs born in 1930 in the UK. I seem to remember a Frank Orme born in 1919 as a cousin somewhere in the family tree. Was Brian J Orme born to Frank L and Vera? The baby girl would have been born possibly 1922 - 1925 and I would think have been born in UK but as I said I have no information about this baby only what I was told yesterday. Have you any idea where I would find the BMD for United States of America - maybe I could check those for a possible birth?
