For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as runner. He frequently carried messages during engagements under heavy fire, and showed great courage and determination. His splendid example was of the greatest value in maintaining communication.

Margaret Mary....

A Fred Elliott is remembered on the St Cuthberts Church Plaque (Bensham) inside the Church.
Click on the following link ....Any problems let me know..

He does have MM after his name....But the surname is spelt Elliott and he was a Gunner in the RE

Ive also looked on the National Archives site for a War Diary which may have given the details why he was awarded the Military Medal, again i cant see any record.

Dear Helper ,We have just returned from France and visited My 2nd cousins grave ,in Rouen Militery Cemetery ,I am the only one left of the Elliot side of the family .He was F. ELLIOT M.M. 152061 Gunner, Royal Artillery ,Died Nov 14th 1918, aged 21years .The only other person who has visited was his brother Stuart ,My husband and I were stunned to see he had M.M after his name we are now eager to find out what he had done to get this distingwished medal ,can you help ,I am in my 80ies and find it hard to delve ,please help .[It is the same with my father he got the M.B.E in ww2 and the reply is classifyed it is so annoying ]hope you can help regards MGT
