That sounds possible I'm not sure of law back then either :-)

I wonder if the first one was preformed in the Non-conformist church and was also entered in the C of E (the only church) in the other parish where maybe one of them lived.

Not sure of the law at that time, but could it have something to do with recording so that it was known that one of the party now belonged to another parish and therefore would have no claim on any 'benefits' under the poor law.

Well, I would think that one of them lived in High Offley and the other in Adbaston and the Banns were recorded in both Parishes.

Hello

I found them on Family search

John Pattrick & leah Smith

1st 14th Feb 1775 High Offley Stafford
2nd 12th Feb 1775 Adbaston Stafford

I've checked on Auto route and there's about 31/2 miles apart

Are you certain the first date is a marriage and not the banns

rootgatherer Report 10 Oct 2012 22:12

Where did you find the marriages and when did they occur please?

Just as an example, the IGI often has two dates and places for Scottish marriages pre statutory registration in 1855. This is can occur if the bride and groom are from different Parishes.
