Sorry to be so slow with my reply mgnv, but having looked a little more deeply at the west midlands site it seems to me that the All Saints and Christ Church registers are in fact C of E but the one labelled Holy Trinity is for those events deemed non conformist such as Baptist Congregational Methodist and Roman Catholic James marriage to Alice West is in the Holiy Trinity register. The introduction to the site appears to make the distinction, so i hold my belief that it was a Roman Catholic marriage. I hope i dont seem to be confrontational that is not my intent, but i think my interpretation of the text on the site is correct but i am certainly open to correction. |

James and Alice are living apart in 1881. Do you have the birth certificates of any of the children to confirm their parentage. Especially Rose as she is noted as adopted in the 1911. |

It is his sister Sylvia. He isn't shown in that census and I can't find him or Annie in 1891. |

It was very difficult for anyone, other than a very wealthy person, to get a divorce back then, not just for Catholics. |

James married Alice West 1880 in West Bromwich Staffordshire England My grandfather Albert West Isherwood was born from this marriage in 1882 Charles and Rose Margaret followed Since James father was married in the Roman Catholic chapel at Broughton Hall Skipton Yorks. its fair to assume James was raised in the catholic faith. This means there would have been no divorce. Yet James remarries in 1888. I cannot find any evidence of Alice West death or other departure nor,can i find any trace of second wife Annies maiden name. Can anyone help please. |
