Yes, think you are right. Will have to look at the owners. Busy day today, but will look later on and see what I can find.

It is a process of just plough through information as the names do not necessarily stare at you. I am sure we will find something.

Hello Sappho
Thanks for your interest, I did wonder about him but don't think so. Unfortunately the records only show age and sex .no names. That is why I am looking at the owners and their history to try and pin down where they travelled.

Cannot see any definite information apart from the fact the slaves mainly came from Madagascar and Asia - no names of course, but shall keep searching - this is very interesting.

Do you think Lieutenant S. Young was your connection? Think we could assume something there what say you?

Gosh reading some interesting 'stuff' on St. Helena's Who's Who.

Good morning Hazel,

There is an interesting History of St. Helena on Wikipedia, which covers the 500 yrs of the island. It is interesting to read as I trace my family - just noticed that. Found out my family come from Constantinople. However that is another story!!

So coming from 1502 forward I am thinking we might find when the slaves were first brought to the island and by whom and from where. I am currently reading it through - you might like to join me.

Thanks , I already have all this info, what I really wanted was how he came to be owned by Mrs pierie as I want to know where he came from. He was born in 1795 .
Mrs Harper owned Eliza Williams. Were they born on the island ?

There is a Lieutenant S. Young but is listed as a slave owner not a slave.

You have to be a member of the Friends Site to get full information, but it is looking like that is where you will get your information.

In NZ so just off to bed now. Will look in the am and see how you have gone. Do come back on the site.

Good night,

ps Mrs. Harper is mentioned as a Slave owner, but could not see Samuel Young. Will have another look in case it is listed another way.

Could you give the name of you GGG father and to confirm we are talking about the Island of St. Helena. There is a list of the names of the Slaves, but we need dates etc.

Suggest you search Friends of St. Helena and follow that - it looks very helpful.

Good luck

Hi Hazel,

Have you tried to google Mrs. Harper - St. Helena. There is something about her having been born in Burma.

It may be a starting point.

My GGG Father was slave to Mrs Harper on St helena. Does anybody know anything about her? I am keen to know where he came from originally.
his name was Samuel Young. Correction; He was slave to Mrs Pierie and married Eliza Williams who was slave to mrs Harper
