My gr gr grandfather John was born around 1823/5 in North Leigh, Nr Witney, Oxon. I would like to trace his parents names. He married Jane Taylor from Kingham, Oxon in 1855 so should also be on the 1851 census. |

Thanks PricklyHolly and Shirley, I haven't got the marriage cert so the 1841 census is jolly handy. |

I think with a name like "Brown" you really need to purchase the marriage cert. |

Yes, that's them in 1871. Emily Ann is my great grandmother. I don't recognise anything in your second option for 1841 with the Shephards etc, what sort of establishment is it as it can't be a family? |

Actually........looking at the image, i think that James and John are not with the Sheppards but are in the next property which is "Hill Farm".......... |

Hi, I guess it is next door which makes more sense. At the risk of being cheeky, do you have access to the 1851 census to check? John Brown didn't marry until 1855 so could be still living with his parents. |
