Find Ancestors

I spent the best part of yesterday afternoon searching for William T. Chandler b. 1845 Devizes on 1861 and 1871 census but so far have not located him. William was married to Jessie (no surname) but not sure when. However their eldest child William Robert Chandler was born 1872 Paddington, London so would guess at around 1871. William T. Chandlers father was also a William born c1814 Devizes with wife Mary, also born Devizes. Have no idea when his parents married but William T. did have an elder brother George b. 1836. The occupation of these various Williams appears to be harness maker.

If anyone has a spare 10 mins and would be prepared to have a look to see if I am in need of a specsavers visit, I would be very grateful.

And did you look for the marriage?

Reggie - I used Ancestry for the census returns. I have the parents William and Mary on the 1851 census living Paddington but that is my only sight of them. The marriages I am busy looking for as we 'speak'. Thank you.

I have found the marriage of William Chandler to Jessie ?. The marriage took place Dec 1868 reg Kensington and gives Jessie's surname as BRUCE. The other William who married Mary - no marriage found as yet.

Reggie - that is the census I found and admit that I took the approximate year of birth from there. That is my only sighting of Wm/Mary up to now. Thank you

I wonder if you realise that when you find someone on Ancestry, the site gives you suggested 'links' for the person to the right of the record you are viewing

That's how I found him in 1861............ I located the family in 1851, then clicked on the child's name............and the 1861 for him was among those suggested by Ancestry

Of course, the difference in the birth year was also a factor.
