Me again.
I have been checking out the 1841 tree above (and have attached it to my tree for future reference!).
Now, there is nothing to confirm if it is him or otherwise but there are a couple of tantalising morsels here.
Firstly, an Ancestry member has researched this family, and particularly William and Frances' son Joseph, who it seems was Joseph Augustus. Interestingly my William named one of his sons Maurice Augustus. Obviously might be co-incidental but I am looking for even the slightest clue here!
In addition, although they have all the children from the 1841 (plus numerous others!) they have ignored William. This might be an oversight but I find it interesting, as for him to be mine he would have to be just living with them, most likely a nephew.
I need to contact them I think.

Allotment, I owe you an apology - totally missed the fact that William's baptism is for William Morris! Really must get a brain transplant.
It does look like a real contender. My only issue now is his father's occupation of public house keeper rather than land proprietor! But as my Powell relatives have been known to be quite, um, creative about their own and their fathers' occupations, I shall not let that put me off for now.
Watch this space - and many thanks again.

Just come online!
Thanks very much allotment. That looks very promising indeed - how come I never saw it then. I suppose the question mark is over the lack of middle names. I must have a look at the census, if only with a view to excluding this family. If I can't find them it makes it a stronger possibility doesn't it.
Have to go out in a bit but I shall be back!
Thanks a million for taking the trouble to go looking.

sorry ... just noticed that you mentioned his father's name is John which would mean this is not the right William

Hello Zena.
I'm fine thanks - and thanks for the question! Just be aware I have asked for help with him before, albeit a good while back.
My William Maurice Powell was born about 1829 and gives his birthplace as Tolworth Surrey. On his marriage cert he states his father as John Horace Powell, a land proprietor.
I have everything about him 1851 onwards but have never traced him 1841 or found anything about his father. By 1851 he was on the move, as he was a commercial traveller.
To be honest, I think you would probably be wasting your valuable time on this as I have searched high & low to no avail.
