Hi

If anyone visits Belgrave cemetary or lives close by could they look for a grave stone please. It's for Thomas May who died 9th August, 1874. Just wondering if his wife was on the stone so I could confirm that it is the correct Thomas May.

Many thanks
Lindsey

(would that be above, who was his wife?)

Municipal Cemetery registers
If you suspect that an ancestor was buried in a civil cemetery then it is likely to be one that was run by the local authority. The oldest and largest one in Leicester is the Welford Road Cemetery. We hold registers and indexes for this cemetery from 1849-1953 on microfiche. We also hold monumental transcripts for the Belgrave cemetery from 1881-1976.

Your best bet would be to contact the cemetery. They will have grave records and can tell you where he is buried and with whom.

Wandering around a cemetery even when you know grave refs is hard work.

His death notice doesn't give much info:

LEICESTER CHRONICLE - Saturday 22 August 1874

On the 9th inst. at the residence of his sister, at Belgrave, Mr Thomas May, age 55.
