Do you have the marriage cert for Kate ?

I have John King b. St. Neots, Huntingdonshire who married Mary Elizabeth Singlehurst in 1867 reg St. Neots, Cambridgeshire. . I have Kate King born 1872 - birth regd. Peterborough,Cambridgeshire who I believed to be their daughter. However, I cannot find a family of John, Mary and Kate on 1881 census who fit the bill. The only father John with a daughter Kate within the appropriate birth dates appear with the wife Hannah. I thought perhaps the original wife Mary had died but I cannot positively identify a death of a Mary King of the right age and location between 1867 when she married John and 1872 when Kate was born. I have also had a quick look for a marriage of John King to a Hannah ? up to 1872 when Kate was born in case Kate was the product of a second marriage. I have had no success with any of these searches. Any suggestions as to what I could input to find Kate and/or her family ? I may have found her on 1891 census working as a servant but the age is a bit out. By 1899 Kate had married.
