"From the Oppisite side - from 1701 in Dammeral - and have traced the family, but not the line"

What does this mean?

Dates for George?

Either Susannah was illegitimate...........or she'd been married before

My Aunt and I are doing this together - but we have come to a stop re George Sumpter (that I found re marriage to a Susannah Steed (her father was Richard Smith - Nevell (can anyone explain the different names? Maybe it was a second girls name like Hilary was a boy's name?)

Anyway - George was the 2nd son of John Sumpter Esq. from Whetstone ,Middlesex. but cannot find records. From the Oppisite side - from 1701 in Dammeral - and have traced the family, but not the line.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Also on Richard Smith-Newell sent to Sth Australia as a Master stair case. One of his still complete! :-)
