Lchu1981 Report 2 Dec 2012 17:56

Hi,

I am looking for a bit of help I am trying to find my great, great grandmothers maiden name. Elizabeth Johnson was married to Peter Johnson I cannot seem to find any marriage record for them and therefore am struggling to find Elizabeth's maiden name. Both are from Darlington.

They had their first child Mary Elizabeth in 1858, however the1861 cenus shows Elizabeth Johnson living with the couples child with Elizabeth's grandmother Mary Vasey born 1791, while Peter is shown living with his Parentsin Houghton Le Skerne. I cannot locate any marriage records for the couple on either Genes or any other website. Can anyone help?

thanks

Lisa

I think Mary Elizabeth was Elizabeth's daughter born out of wedlock. She is described as Mary Vasey's great granddaughter on the 1861 census.

The 1862 marriage seems to be right.

This looks like Mary E. Johnson's birth:-

Name: JOHNSON, Mary Elizabeth
Registration district: Darlington
County: Durham
Year of registration: 1857
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume no: 10A
Page no: 16

I would imagine that there is no father named on the certificate.
