Have you looked fro the marriage of Freddie Topham to find out his wife's surname?

Read should be her maiden name, as stated on birth cert. Obviously she might never have married Richard.
I imagine this is him - doesn't help you though

I'm trying to find details of my grandmother, Ada Read. She may have been born in Preston, or Burnley or Blackburn. Ada was born in 1885 and died in Liverpool in 1945, where she lived in 16 Derwent Road. I have my father's birth certificate from 1926 which states she is the mother of Richard Thomas Corlett and the wife of Richard Corlett, born the Isle of Man in 1879. On this birth certificate she is entered as Corlett, formerly Read. At this time she was living in 53 Derby Lane - a minutes walk from where she lived in Derwent Road.

However, as much as I have tried I can find no marriage certificate between Richard Corlett and Ada Read. I've been told that Ada was married previously and had three daughters, one was Hilda who, I was told, married Freddie Topham.

So, the name on the birth certifcate is Read, was this her maiden name or previous married name? A relative told me she was the daughter of either the mayor of Blackburn or Burnley who was against the marriage to Richard Corlett.

I only have Ada's birth and death dates, but nothing as to where she might be buried.

Here's hoping someone in the community has useful information.
