Find Ancestors

Hi all,

Was hoping you could help find my great grandfather, Albert Goodge. I've searched the indexes so many times but there's still no sign of him. He was born on 17th February 1881 and it's probably him (mistranscribed) at 93 Chippenham Road, Paddington on the 1881 census, living with John and Emily Prior. I cannot find any trace of him after that until 1914

He was born illegitimately to Annie Holmes and August (or William) Starr (Goodge was an alias). What I know about Albert is that he was a waiter. In 1914 he was living in Southend when he married my great grandmother. Then he lived in London in the 1920s until he was admitted to an asylum.

His mother was born in Paddington in 1861 and worked as a Schoolmistress before marrying Matthew Aspland in 1895. His father was a hairdresser and married in 1872.

Oh I forget to say that there are two Albert Goodges. The one son of William, born 1849 in Lincolnshire, is not him. As it happens the Lincolnshire William Goodge was probably an associate of Mr Starr, hence why Albert ended up with the surname Goodge. He'd obviously done very well covering up his extra-marital affair!

Oh and Annie's parents were Alfred and Ann Holmes. Alfred was a stone mason. Sorry for forgetting about the extra detail. Thanks for the help everyone :)

Does anyone know who Albert Holmes, aged 28, living in Covent Garden is living with? 1911 Census says he is working as a waiter. I wonder if that is Albert using his mother's name..

@MarysRoots - Thanks for your help. I wondered if this could be him but I believe there is a christening for an Albert Goodge in Luton which rules that Albert Goodge out.
