Hi all –hope someone can help me. I was just going back through the census records with James Owen C1822 –Montgomeryshire Powys. When I got to 1851 I thought I was nearing the end of the line –when suddenly his brother David Owen C1835 pops up –a whole new line to look at. Except I can’t find any trace of him anywhere else –and neither of them are in the 1841 census. Any suggestions please? Terry

Where were James & David born other than Montgomeryshire?

That's all I can get out of the census' -1951 throws in Elonhiethliw Montgomeryshire -but as that doesn't exist it's not much help.

Re above - both born 'LLanbuthlin', or similar!! It's a major mis-transcription for James. Jan
|
Do you know who James' parents were? Jan
|
Not sure if it helps - we English are having trouble with those Welsh place-names!:

Sorry don't know his parents. I've traced James right through from 1851 up until his death in 1877.
Unfortunately David only has that 'walk on part' in 1851 and doesn't show up anywhere else. Without finding him and James together and without a parents name it's going to be hellish trying to ID a David Jones' in a Welsh Census.

I was working on the possibility that Susanna Roberts from the 1851 'may' be a sister to James ??

James, Susannah and David 'could' be from this family?? It also looks like Thomas c21 and Edward c26 (from the 1841 census) would also be their siblings?
I will have to leave it now until later but it needs work work to find proof with such common names.
Perhaps someone else might like to have a go at this?
I will return to it later.

Did James marry? If so, have you got his marriage cert to confirm his father's name?

Just got back to computer.
Thanks so much to you all for your help. I'll trawl through all the information -but it looks like I've got some pretty good leads here.
Thanks again,

John Owen in 1851 with wife, Jane is actually born in Denbighshire, not Derbyshire.

Wales, Denbighshire, Parish Registers, 1538-1912 name: John Owen event: Baptism event date: 24 Jan 1808 event place: Llanyfydd, Denbighshire, Wales [This looks hopeful - the 1851 looks like Llanroyd.] digital folder number: 004631525
