Marriage certs in England and Wales usually have the name and occupation of both fathers, but not invariably. Sometimes they get missed off, for various reasons, they may not be known if either the bride or groom were born out of wedlock, family estrangment etc. If the father is deceased he may simply be marked as such, and his former occupation not given. So you might be unlucky

However with the abundance of Thomas Walter Thomases you have to chose from, I think it's virtually a necessary investment.

Armed with the information it gives you, you/we can then go back to the FreeBMD and census material to see what we can find that tallies.

How sure are you of the Swansea link? There are a couple of Thomas Walter Thomases born in Swansea on FreeBMD, one in 1890, and a Thomas Walters 1898, but the ages don't fit with the possible 1973 death.

Hi I have just been looking at the info Kucinta posted in the first reply, This seems to be best match but not sure, his wife Alethea died 1978 in Shrewsbury.

I did not know marriage certs hold that info may order that.

Thomas & Alethea had 6 children, Alethea S (Lul), David Edward (Eddie), Annie Ruby (Ruby), John W (Jack), Elizabeth M (Betty) & Thomas Evan (Tommy) between 1919 - 1934
Tommy was my Grandfather, he passed away 11 years ago and some of the others have recently gone with the others not well and memory gone.
I know I sould have got the details earlier, may ask the children if they can remember anything from the info I have but when I asked they didnt know much.

Two public trees on Ancestry have the 1973 death I posted earlier for Thomas, and a 1954 death for Alethea, which I can't find .

Only one of the trees has parents for Thomas, namely David and Sarah.

They have this as the family, but I can't see any Swansea connection.

I think you really do need the marriage cert, to find out Thomas Walter Thomas's age, and the name and occupation of his father - as you say, we are dealing with a very common name and it would be easy to go down the wrong route.

You should get the marriage cert, which should give name and occupation of fathers of the bride and groom, also ages of the bride and groom to narrow things down a bit..

Hi I am looking for information regarding my ancester Thomas Walter Thomas.
I do not know a DOB for DOD, I only have that he married Alethea Pugh in 1919, he was originally from Swansea area. I have found him in the Marriage Records.

I am stuck where to look now as its a bit of a common name. If anyone has any tips i would be very grateful. Have asked the family only info I got was they think he had about 8 siblings and I know he died between 1970 (as I have picture dated then) & 1982 ish (when my parents met) But dont know where.
