Wow! That was so quick!!

I am new to all of this and not really sure of where to search etc.

I am searching on behalf of my partner Richard Lockett Foden. It is his father we are trying to trace.

Hi father was born and died in Cheshire but at some point moved out to South Africa as he married my partner's mother in Natal in 1953. They divorced whn my partner was very young and he didn't have much to do with his father. He only returned to Cheshire not long before he died in 1992.

Unfortunatley my partner's mother is not able to remember any family names.

If you are able to giveme tips on where to search etc I would be most greatful!

A tree on Ancestry lists the mother Ethel as born 1888 in Macclesfield

This looks likely for parents, though you really need to send for his birth cert to be sure:

Shufflebotham Joseph L Foden Macclesfield 8a 251 Scan available - click to view

You can get the birth cert from GRO for £9.25 - quote the references you have found for the 1924 birth.

Richard

Richard Report 27 Dec 2012 12:48

I am trying to trace the parents of an Edward Lockett Shufflebotham, born in Cheshire on the 10th of August 1924. The tricky part is that his name was changed at some point in his life. He was born Shufflebotham but for some reason it was changed to Foden. I have managed to track a registration of the birth in the 4th quarter of 1924 of an Edward Shufflebotham with his mother's maiden name Foden. I am assuming this is the same person. Now I want to trace his parents but do not know their names. :-( :-( I can't find a record of the actual birth certificate.

Any help would be most greatful!
