Sylann Report 28 Dec 2012 16:04

I've been making enquiries about an ancester who was in the South Fencibles in 1785 from the national archives they are saying that find my past have records which you have to pay for to view?
The national archives want £60 + to do a search

Has anyone viewed any records of this kind through Find my Past if so how much does it cost and was it worth it

Thank you

Thank you George Do you do credit

The Guy I'm looking for is Alexander Murray

not sure when or where he was born
he was married to Cecilia Law (yet again no marriage) they had at least 5 children Elizabeth born Irvine 1781
, Helen 1782 St Cuthberts ( this states he was in the South Fencibles at Fountain Briggs)
Alexander 1785 Barony Lanarkshire
Catherine 1789 Barony
and Marion 1790c
Alexander was their 4th child
Cecilia his wife died in 1807 in Linlithgow

So I'm afraid that is all I have <3

Not sure I was hoping it would give me more info

Out of those their is 2 that could be possibles that is only that the date was 1787 one deffinatly isn't him as Dof B was too late 1772 My Alexander had a child 1781

ust looked at all the birth certificates and their is only Helen 1782 that actually says he was in the Fencibles ? I'll check their wedding certificates

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 28 Dec 2012 17:30

From the account I posted at 17:16, looks the South Fencibles only existed for 5 years, disbanding in April 1783.

One incident that involved them:

May be after that they were refered to as militia men

I have a birth certificate that could be their daughter Marian 1795 golspie Sunderland in which he is a Rhiorn soldier,

and their son Alexander was in the Militia when he married in Linlithgow 1810
